Hi Friends! I wanted to share some of my thoughts and ideas for my christmas decor this year. I know you usually see just the after photos, but I wanted to share some of my thought process and inspiration with you. Sometimes just sharing the journey to how we get to the pretty spaces is more meaningful than the finished product itself. I tend to stick to a mostly neutral color palette to begin with. And while I love that, and I loved our Christmas decor last year, at the end of the day it felt like it was missing something. I know sounds weird right? [Read more…]
Can we chat for a minute. Just friend to friend?! Life is hard. There I said it. I know in the world of social media, we are filled to the brim with everyone else’s highlight reel, it can make our own lives feel – well uneventful. Like if we aren’t trying the hippest restaurant in town, or the latest beauty regiment, or have picture perfect children at every moment, who never have outbursts, and always look put together, and don’t shout out in the grocery store “SOMEONE FARTED”. We can loose ourselves sometimes getting caught up in all we aren’t doing, and forget to rest in the fact that we are imperfect people, living in a messed up crazy world, and not every moment looks like it came straight out of a Hallmark movie. Phew! I’m glad I got that off my chest. [Read more…]
Yep that’s right! That is exactly how I would describe our new curtains in our living room. Not too hot, too cold, but just right! In other words, not too dark, not too light, but just right! You see I love all white, truly I do, but sometimes it feels just a little to blan for me after awhile. And while throw pillows can certainly add their pop of color, I really just wanted something that would cause a bit more of a change. [Read more…]
I am so excited to be teaming up with 4 other amazing bloggers this week and Kirklands to give you the first looks of Christmas in our home. Whether it’s your first time visiting our blog, a recent acquaintance, or a long time friends, Welcome and Happy Holidays! My number one goal is to make our home feel warm and inviting to all who stop by, whether it’s in real life, or for a virtual visit on the blog. I joke that if I could put myself in a decorating style category it would be “relaxed”, because that is truly how I want our home to feel. I love layering in details and texture that all stem from my love for all things farmhouse, especially for the holiday season! [Read more…]
I am so blown away by all the sweet comments I got about my Christmas tablescape I did with HomeGoods! Seriously, it has been so amazing going through and reading all of them. If you missed it you can see the tablescape HERE, and there is still time to enter to win the $100 HomeGoods gift card. Just in time for the holidays, so be sure to visit that post. On my tablescape I used mini bundt cakes to create a unique and individual place setting. So today I’m going to share with you how I created them, and seriously, this is the easiest thing in the world, but it’s the extra details we put into things that really make our guests feel appreciated. It’s no secret around here that I love creating tablescapes! You’ve heard me say it before, and I will probably say it again. Which is why I am so excited to share a NEW mini-course created just for Holiday DIY Tablescapes, and just in time with the holidays right around the corner. This instantly available course was created by Jen Wagner, and is available through Jeanne Oliver Designs. You may remember a course I taught with Jeanne and other friends all about the Art of Home. One thing I know for sure, is that the courses Jeanne provides on her website are from the most thoughtful, creative and genuine women, who truly want to inspire and help others create! It’s a beautiful network of artists, and this course happens to be particularly close to home. There is nothing I love doing more than creating tablescapes, but trust me, I know for some the thought of it is daunting, or perhaps even un-inspiring. The good news is it doesn’t have to be that way! Whether you’ve dabbled in it before, are completely new to the concept, or love creating inviting tables for your guests to come and sit at, I think you will love this course. [Read more…]
If you caught our bedroom decorated for Christmas earlier this week, than you saw that I gave our room a mini-makeover in the process! Let me just tell you how this mini-makeover process started. We are freshening up our curated collection over at Painted Fox, and I can’t wait to share all the details with you on that, but in that process I stumbled across this gorgeous headboard. Insert wheels turning! Like I loved this headboard so much, I was dreaming about it. I loved that it had a vintage vibe with the slightly aged wood trim, and I loved the neutral linen upholstery. So much so, a vision was born! And that was the end of that, lol. [Read more…]
Do I have an exciting surprise for you! If you follow me on Instagram than I hinted to it last week when I shared a picture of our bedroom, but I have changed things up! Today I am joining my friends kicking off the Christmas part of our Farmhouse Holiday Series, by sharing our bedroom decorated for Christmas with Birch Lane. But I also gave our room a little mini-makeover in the process! [Read more…]
We all know a great way to welcome guests into our homes for the holiday season is with a welcoming entry way. Whether you have a formal entrance to your home, a large hallway, or simply just a door, I think you will find these steps helpful and practical for any set up. While I love adding seasonal touches throughout my home to make it warm and inviting, it’s important not to overlook the place your guests will see first. Creating a welcoming entryway doesn’t take a lot of time or energy but can make all the difference in the world when it comes to your guests first impression. Today I’m going to share with you my go to tips for creating a welcoming fall entryway. [Read more…]
Well I did it, I put up our Christmas tree today! Don’t worry it’s not decorated yet, but its up and it’s pretty white lights are on. It’s like instant magic the moment the lights get plugged in. Every time it instantly evokes a sense of wonder and child like awe for the season. So before we get into full swing Christmas here on the blog, I decided to do a little round up of this year’s fall decor to make it easy to find. And what better way to celebrate fall before we all jump into Christmas than with some more pretty pictures 😉 [Read more…]
It’s no secret around here that I love to create tablescapes. Whatever the occasion is I’m up for the task. Whether its a more formal dining setting, like THIS ONE I created this fall. Or creating a simple tablescape like THIS ONE, that will last from September right up to Thanksgiving. This weeks video with Wayfair is all about creating a fall/thanksgiving tablescape. Since I realize that not everyone creates a new tablescape for every occasion, I wanted to create one that I knew could last a few months, but still be perfect for Thanksgiving. [Read more…]
I can’t believe we only have 2 more weeks left of October. This year is starting to come to an end, but honestly it’s my favorite time of the year. I have been brainstorming some new design ideas for this years Christmas decor, a whole new color palette, and I honestly am equally nervous and excited to share it! Only nervous because I hope I can find everything I need for it. However before we can start on that I wanted to share this fun idea of a Halloween beverage station I created in partnership with Wayfair.
I had a completely different post planned for today, but when Facebook pops up in your feed with a memory from 5 years ago, I knew I wanted to share that instead. Not because I want to boast on how far I’ve come, but it’s important to look back on where we have come from. To take a moment and soak in the hard work and time we’ve invested to get to where we are today. You’ve heard the expression “Rome wasn’t built in a day” and I think the same is definitely true in blogging. I’ve shared my thoughts about comparison HERE, and nothing can wreck you more in the blogging industry than comparing yourself to someone else’s accomplishments. I think it’s so important that we take a moment, and stop to look back and see just how far we’ve come. Not only does it help give us a sense of accomplishment, but it propels us into moving forward with fresh motivation.
