If you are stopping by from Diane at In My Own Style, then welcome!! I’m joining some pretty amazingly talented bloggers this week for a fun little tour along with some questions we will all be answering. To be honest, I feel a little star struck to be in this group, and a whole – lotta gratitude to be among some amazing people, that inspire me on my own blogging journey. The one thing we all have in common is we will be at Haven this year! One thing that is new to the conference this year, is this crazy talented group of bloggers called Haven Mentors.
To start off if you aren’t familiar with what Haven is, it’s a blogging conference held in Atlanta, offering DIY + Home Bloggers a place to grow and connect with others in their niche’. I had the pleasure of attending for the first time last year and speaking! GULP! What a task my first year, but I was beyond blessed from the friendships and relationships that were established on that trip. It really changed my outlook on blogging. I no longer felt like a lone ranger, but now I was apart of a loving online community, whom some have become my closest friends. This year the Haven team is adding Haven Mentors as a way to cultivate more relationship and make deeper connections. Which I think is so awesome, because as one who has felt like that lone ranger before, I can’t wait to connect with more bloggers at this years conference! So now that we are up to speed, lets jump into those questions I was telling you about!
- How many years have you been blogging? – 4 – and what a ride it has been. Blogging gave me the courage to start my own Interior Design business. Take opportunities I never thought were possible, and fulfill dreams I’ve had since I was a little girl.
2.What is your favorite DIY project you’ve completed? – I would have to say a lot of our DIY’s have been all about adding character to our home.
I think my favorite one was transforming an unused wall in our kitchen to a plate rack. I had always admired plate racks, and this tiny wall between our basement door and bathroom door always drove me nuts. The problem was it took my about a year to talk my husband into doing it, because there was a chimney behind that wall he would have to cut out so the plate rack wouldn’t stick out too far into the kitchen. Funny the things our husbands do for us out of love. It’s still my most favorite project to date, and it makes me smile every time.
3. What is something significant you learned from a conference? – I have a never ending list of things I hope to and want to learn to better my blogging, but the most significant thing I learned at a conference was at Haven last year. And that was – that I’m not alone. OF course I know I’m not because I have wonderful readers like you, that stick with me, and always leave me kind comments. But knowing there are other bloggers out there in your back corner, rooting for you, and cheering you on. That can share in your frustration of ever changing technology and algorithms, and share in your joy with tiny victories, and big opportunities. Having a community of people wrap their arms around you, and encourage you to keep going when you want to throw in the towel, or be there for late night texts because you are stuck, and your post is due at 6am the following morning. That really has impacted me the most, and for that I will be forever grateful for the opportunity Haven provided to foster all those relationships.
4. What is one piece of advice you would offer a blogger – new or otherwise – who is going to Haven? – just breathe and enjoy the conference!
If this is your first year going, you are going to flooded with a range of emotions from nerves to excitement! Trust me. Just rest assured knowing there are going to be some great classes to take, a sea of women just like you, who love what they do, and can’t wait to rub shoulders with you, and you will leave with a ton of inspiration and motivation! If you’ve been before, than you know the drill, but I hope you’ll take a risk with me if you haven’t done this there before. Say hi to someone you don’t know 🙂 Have lunch with some ladies you’ve never met. That’s what makes Haven so great, relationships. And I’ll be there with my glasses on most of the time, so I can see all your pretty faces! #gettingoldsucks.
