Today I’m sharing a new space in our home with you! One that I actually haven’t shared any of before here on the blog. Our back porch! It’s a great space full of potential, one that I wasn’t sure if we were going to be tackling this year, but we are getting ready to get this project in full swing, and I wanted to share the design plan and all the before photos with you first!
Home Projects
This time of year I’m always itching to tackle home projects. Or as we refer to them in our house – winter projects. We have been cooped up inside all winter long, and spring is still a few weeks out, I love to get some projects done around our home that either add character or help refresh our spaces. So today I’m sharing some of my favorite home projects we’ve done in the past that could be tackled in a weekend, in case you are itching to do a home project as well!
Limelight Hydrangeas in the Fall
We have been working on planting a new hydrangea hedge at our new property, and I am so excited with the progress. One of the questions I got asked the most when we were moving was “won’t you miss your hydrangeas?”. While I was certainly bummed to leave our 8ft tall hydrangea hedge at our last house (shared HERE), I had every intention of recreating the same look at our new house. Knowing that limelight hydrangeas mature quickly, I knew it would only take a few years for them to take off, and they certainly have! Today I’m sharing what our limelight hydrangeas look like in the fall, and the progress we have made so far.
Fireplace Makeover | the Reveal
The day is finally here. I am sharing our fireplace reveal. It honestly feels so surreal when I pause for a moment and look back at all the months I spent dreaming about our fireplace makeover being complete! After living with the brick for 2 years, it was time to pull the trigger, and we began our fireplace makeover. I would like to say this is the makeover reveal we have all been waiting for, because for some of you, you have been just as invested following along from the start. After many months, and lots of time and sweat put into this makeover, the reveal is finally here!
Fireplace Makeover Part 2 | continued
Yesterday I shared the beginning phase of our fireplace demo! And oh my word was that a messy process. Tearing out brick and mortar is no easy task, and involved all hands on deck. We hung plastic up to try and contain the dust. Put drop cloths down to protect the floors, but nothing prepares you for removing brick piece by piece. It was a messy job, but a necessary one if we were going to be able to give our fireplace the makeover we were longing too! Today we are picking up where I left off – the fun part! Or as I like to refer to it as the “pretty” part, where we begin to rebuild the front of the fireplace into the look we are wanting.
Fireplace Makeover Part 2 | Demo
Today I’m sharing part 2 of our Fireplace Makeover – the demo! If you haven’t read the first post about our fireplace makeover, I recommend starting there first. You can read it HERE, and then come back to this post 🙂 Have you heard the saying that goes something like “It has to get worse before it can get better” ? I feel like in most cases with demo that saying applies, it was certainly the case for our fireplace. I’m sharing the fireplace demo process with you, because it also helps explain a little bit better why we made some of the choices we did when for our fireplace makeover.
Cottage Inspired Guest Room Reveal
It’s been awhile since I’ve shared a room reveal with you. I realize I haven’t even gotten around to sharing our first floor guest room reveal with you (I keep waiting for the perfect rug to finish that room off), but you might not have realized we have another spare bedroom on the second floor that we are using as guest room #2. Our first floor guest room has a king size bed and en suit bath, making it perfect for when our parents come for a visit. Upstairs, I’ve created the sweetest cottage inspired guest room with two antique Jenny Lind twin beds I found at a yard sale, and a few other second hand pieces of furniture.
Fireplace Makeover | Part 1
When I first shared our fireplace on social media, so many of you weighed in and gave input as to how to give this fireplace a makeover. I knew refreshing this fireplace was going to require more than just a quick fix if I wanted it to feel like it was always apart of the home. So today I’m sharing all the ideas we’ve thought through, the solutions to some of those ideas, and why we aren’t doing some of the more common ideas you see in fireplace makeovers.
Guest Bathroom Refresh Reveal
Today I’m sharing how I refreshed our guest bathroom. The plan was to give our guest bathroom some cosmetic updates to help refresh the space, and tone down the red tile. Knowing that eventually we plan to give this bathroom a complete makeover, I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on this refresh. Our main goal was to update this guest bathroom, all with budget friendly ways, to help get us by until we can give it the makeover it deserves.
