First of all, thank you SO much for all of your comments and well wishes on my upcoming trip to Waco, TX. I’m so excited, and can’t believe I will be there in less than a week. In case you missed my announcement over the weekend, you can catch the post HERE, and read all about how I will be headed to Waco, TX this weekend to attend Silobration at Magnolia Market with Kilz.
One of my favorite things to do here on the blog, is share things I’m currently obsessed with, design trends, or just plain ‘ol things that I am loving in the home decor world. So today, I’m doing just that! I’ve been noticing a trend lately in kitchen designs, and while white cabinets still tend to be on fire (which I am perfectly ok with), there is a new(ish) cabinet in town that seems to be making an entrance.
No I’m not talking about dark cabinets, although I love those too, I’m talking about wood cabinets. Don’t worry, I’m not referring to the oak cabinets that seemed to grace every kitchen through the 90’s, nope these have a different look. Take a look and tell me what you think …
Some refer to these as lime washed oak cabinets, well I don’t know for sure if that is the proper term, they do resemble the beautiful look of aged wood, similar to that of European styles.
Whether used as just base cabinets, or upper and lower cabinets I’ve been seeing more and more kitchen designs with these blonde wood cabinets popping up. Also known as lime-washed oak, for their lightened, slightly distressed, patina finish.
They are also popping up as accents in kitchens. Whether they coordinate with other architectural details in the space, like beams or accent hutches, or even a range hood.
I also love when they are used on just the island. It’s a great way to add warmth to the kitchen, and really highlight the island as a custom, accent piece. There are so many different variations, check out the few different styles shown below.
So what do you think? Are you a fan of blonde kitchen cabinets, how I refer to them as? While I’m not sure I will be jumping on this trendy band wagon just yet (I’m a white cabinets girl through and through), I do love the warmth and character they add to a kitchen!

I like the new cabinet look. As far as the island……leave it out of my kitchen…..I’m tired of walking around it.

Those cabinets are very nice, love the washed lighter look. I believe I will agree with you, Bre, it would look awesome for the island and also as accent wood in various places in the kitchen. Thanks for sharing! NOW….let’s get to the main event….WACO!!!!! I’m so excited for you and I have to admit somewhat jealous!! Lol!! That is a dream of mine to one day get to visit Waco and the Silos. A change from white cabinets but I think I prefer this wooden look on the island only.
Bre says
YES! I think I totally agree. While I like the look of the wood in the cabinets, I think personally I would only like it on the island ๐
