Yesterday I did a short post for memorial day,
with a few pictures of our
DIY Pallet American Flag.
Today I’ll give you a little behind the scenes look
on how it all came together.
This was a pretty easy project,
once the pallet was taken apart.
I let Jesse take care of that part, because once a hammer wouldn’t cut it,
and the crow bar had to come out, I knew there was little
more elbow grease involved than I could give.
It was not as easy as it sounded,
BUT,
it did come apart, after a little sweat and muscles ๐
Once apart, I lined the pieces of wood up
to start painting.
I chose to paint them before assembling so the I could paint the sides of the boards as well.
I decided to start with the blue part first,
So I grabbed my stars for placement to see exactly how big of a blue square I needed.
I received these country stars in the packaging from a friend,
and was told I could do whatever I wanted to do with them,
so I knew they would be perfect for this project.
They had pins on the back of them, so I popped those off with a flathead screw driver,
and gave them a quick coat with white spray paint.
I placed the stars on the boards, and spaced them out, and then taped off the section.
Then I removed the stars and painted the square with a $2 sample of blue paint.
I chose the darkest shade on the paint swatch, for a deep blue.
Then I grabbed some white and red paint from the basement that I
already had on hand.
I did two coats of paint for everything to make sure there was an even coverage.
Once everything was painted, hubby attached the boards together
with the scrap pieces left over from the pallet
vertically on the back.
Then we attached the the stars with some heavy duty glue.
I grabbed some eye hooks, and rope from walmart, and attached them to the top,
so that we could hang it on our porch.
I also grabbed this extra stool that Jesse’s parents gave us during on of their moves,
and painted it red, to act as a plant holder, and add to the patriotic feel.
Before:
I gave it a light sand, and used the same red paint I used on the flag,
so it would match.
After:
I love how the American Flag turned out,
it’s the perfect addition to add a little bit of summer to the porch.
I will be linking the project up to:
Have a Great Day!
