I totally meant for this post to be yesterday, as I don’t usually post on the weekends, but you know that thing called “life”, well it likes to get in the way sometimes. So here is some fun weekend eye candy for you, taking a look at our new sofa in our living room! I shared earlier in the week why we went with a new sofa, and as much as we loved our IKEA white slip covered couch, it had seen better days. I also shared that our IKEA couch was 10 years old, and they have since re-vamped how they make the inner cushions, which I think gives them more life. All that being said, what it really came down to was the preferences of our family, that kept us from going back to get another sofa from IKEA. I shared how my husband was never really thrilled with our old couch. He is not a big man by any means, and would comment on how if he wanted to get comfortable on the couch there really isn’t room for anyone else. We love to sprawl out, and really lounge in our living room. Our living room doubles as a formal entertaining space, and our movie / football watching, “relaxing as a family” space. So when it comes to a sofa, I searched and searched for something that could accommodate all those needs. At the end of the day, as much as I want it look magazine perfect (because I just like pretty rooms), I also want it to be a space that welcomes my family in, and offers up a place to rest in at the end of the day. I’m going to be honest guys, I almost . . .
ALMOST went with a color! For real, at one point I was so close to pulling the trigger at getting a colored slip-covered sofa instead so I didn’t have to wash it with everyday dirt, but I reminded myself that while I might like the color for a little while, maybe even several months, at the end of the day I always go back to white! So here is our new WHITE living room sofa.I know I showed you earlier in the week how our living room progressed in this post, but here’s one more peak for you to see the difference in looks in our old sofa.
And it’s winter now, so things are toned down a bit, plus I’m in the process of quieting the house, and refreshing things a bit. The new sofa just started the ball rolling! We went with the Carly 93″ Sofa in White from Joss & Main.
It sure is comfortable, and so much more “grand” feeling, even if it is the same color as our previous sofa. When it came down to it, as much as I naturally pull towards white, I also LOVE the practicality of white! I really think I will have a hard time getting away from it, which is fine by me! It is so easy with kids, and everyday life. I think it gets a lot of bad hype, but it’s usually from people who don’t have a white slip covered sofa. They may have had a white couch, but the key is in the slip covers!
I’ve actually already washed ours once, just because I wanted to see how they would be and the difficulty to remove them, even the main couch slip cover is completely removable, which is so easy to keep clean. They came off like a breeze, and sometimes in the past when washing our IKEA covers, I would have to stretch and pull, and squeeze to get them back on, unless they were extremely damp and then no one could sit on the sofa until they were dry. Not so with this one. They were completely easy to take off, and fit easily right back on when I was done. They handle the everyday dirt much easier as well.
And at 41″ deep, the hubby now has plenty of room to sprawl out and watch movies and football to his hearts content. We are always on the go, so having a place that we can come and truly rest in and get some downtime in, is vital for us. I can tell you every Sunday afternoon has been spent right here in this very spot, and it truly helps us refresh before we start the madness of a new week all over again.
I know that the thought of ordering a sofa online can provide a lot of hesitancy. Trust me I have been there before. But more than just liking how our new sofa looks, I can honestly say I am SUPER impressed with the quality of this sofa, and will definitely not be so hesitant in the future. I have found some of the best deals on decor through Joss & Main, and they continue to be a main shopping source for me.
I can’t wait to share more with you next week on the what I have in store for part of our Living Room re-fresh! To see how our living room has transpired you check out this post, HERE. To get all the details and sources about our Living Room, click HERE.

Bre, I am not sure if I have commented before on your blog, but I love it in every way and have been following along for about one year. I am changing out some of my furniture for white slip-covered pieces too, or trying to make slip-covers. It’s not easy!
If you ever consider selling one or both of your living room chairs, I would be interested in them. I live in Massachusetts.
Happy decorating! Christine

Love your new sofa. I was looking for it on their website. Are the slipcovers twill? Do you recall the exact color? Is it z optic white? Your home always is so lovely. Thanks for any info.
Bre says
Hi Donna! I’m not sure the actual name of the material, but it feels like a really soft canvas. Not like drop cloth, but durable, if that makes sense. And yes it is the optic white 😉

We are looking for a new sofa too. I love white. Your post has definitely helped a lot. Too bad that the sofa is now sold out at the website. Thanks for sharing !!!
Bre says
Hi Bessie! I know that Joss & Main is a sale site, but they do carry this one often, so if you really liked it, hold on, I’m sure it will be back soon. I see it pop up frequently on their site 🙂

Where can I purchase a white slip cover for an existing couch? I need it to be easy to wash but to look like the one pictured. My couch has to cushions an is smaller thwn yours. A pretty normal couch.empire type style.
Bre says
Hi Priscilla. Unfortunately unless you have one made, you won’t get an exact fit slip cover, unless you buy a sofa that comes with one. However I have looked around in the past, and the “Sure Fit” brand seems to offer the most selection. While it may not be an exact fit, you can get them pretty close depending on the style of you sofa. I have seen them in Target and Kohl’s, but I think online will give you the most choices 🙂

It looks great and your whole living room looks like such a cozy place to be!

I just checked it out online and it states that the slipcover is dry clean only??
Bre says
Hi Susan! Yes it does say that, however I washed mine anyways, and had no issue 🙂

Congratulations on the new sofa. It’s really nice! Your post is timely because I am in the process of purchasing not one, but two sofas for my home. The first is for my livingroom with 7 foot ceilings. For this space, I am going with the Ektorp 2+2 sectional in Bleking White, but I was undecided about what sofa to buy for my long, rectangular pool house and I believe your sofa may be the one! I’m headed over to Joss and Main now and hope to find it in sectional form with a chaise attached. Are the cushions firm or soft? Is it super comfy? We need something we can sink into, cuddle up and fall asleep on.
Bre says
Hi Kay! It is definitely super comfy. You sink right into it, and I can tell you there have been plenty of Sunday afternoon naps taken so far 🙂
