I am so excited today is finally here, because I get to share our Patio Makeover with all of you! We have been working hard to finish this space, and I can’t wait to share it with all of you! Today I’m joining 9 other talented bloggers in our #10days10patios tour sponsored by Joss & Main, and featured by Country Living Magazine.
Our lovely host Kristen at Ella Claire started things off Monday, and it has been pure inspiration every day since. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the girls have done with their outdoor spaces as we keep going. If you are coming from stop #3 on the tour, Love Grows Wild, then welcome, and I hope you all enjoy this makeover as much as we will for the rest of the season.
Creating outdoor spaces can seem a bit overwhelming at times, especially when you don’t have a designated space or porch that gives you a spot to create an outdoor space. A few years ago we dug out this corner of our yard, near our barn and created a fire pit area. After a few hard winters the area was starting to look pretty drab, and our inexpensive, quick fix, patio furniture had seen better days. So you can imagine how thrilled I was with the opportunity to give this space some much needed love with the help of our friends at Joss & Main!
We have a decent sized area, but it never felt like it was used to it’s full potential before. Filled with mismatched furniture, and odd and end pieces, sure it was nice having a fire pit, but it never really felt inviting. I started first by addressing the seating issue. Our old plastic adirondack chairs were cracked and faded from harsh winters, new ones were on the top of my list.
These all weather chairs are not only durable, they fold in half, to make it easy to store for the winter months, and really help make the space feel like it was done on purpose – not just an after thought.
I always express to readers and clients how valuable adding plants to an indoor space is, and yet somehow I seemed to overlook that in my outdoor space. I had fun adding a variety of planters to the space that really made it feel inviting.
I instantly fell in love with these concrete planters, my husband thought I was nuts, but fresh green plants POP once they are filled, I think will be adding these to my collection for awhile.
Adding a wicker sofa to the space really brought in the cozy factor. It feels so much more like an outdoor room now rather than just a space. I’m already planning many afternoon naps in that cozy spot. A perfect place to watch the kids play in the yard.
I added more concrete planters next to the sofa, along with a wicker basket planter, that came in a set of three. A great way to carry the look around the space, and keep things feeling cohesive.
Next to the sofa, I brought out my favorite farmhouse industrial table, which is a perfect landing spot for fire side beverages.
I shared on Instagram the other day, with a sneak peak, that it was all about the details in this space. Even though I kept to a monochromatic feel, I didn’t want the space to feel lacking either.
I found these old whiskey barrel rings at a yard sale 2 summers ago, and instantly new what I wanted to do with them. I had enough to make 3 orbs, and spread them around the patio.
Using different textures, I was able to add interest but still stick to the things my neutral self loved. Blending different green plants, with only white flowers, left room for the details to shine.
Creating this space was more than just adding pretty things, it was about creating an atmosphere that brings everyone together, fosters relationships, and provides the opportunity for more time together as a family. I know we can all look at things and categorize them as “just stuff”, and while that is true, when you create a space that is warm and inviting, you won’t be able to keep your family out. The moment I was done setting up the last of the details, the seats were already full, and memories were being made. So here’s so a summer of time spent together, relaxing under the trees.
So lets take on more look at the Before & After :
Tomorrow on the tour is Melanie over at My Sweet Savannah, and I can’t wait to see her space. Hope you find just the inspiration you need to freshen up your outdoor living space.

Your outdoor space looks great! When you first made the patio did you level it? Is there just dirt under the rocks ? Anything to keep the weeds away? Really want to make a stone patio similar to this. Thanks
Bre says
Hi Christine. After we finished digging the space out, we raked it, and then before we put the stone down we put weed block down (black fabric), and sprayed, and that has kept things from sprouting up for the most part. I may occasionally have to pull something out, but very rare. When we put the stone in, we spread it out and leveled it with the stone. Hope that helps!

I LOVE the transformation!! Such beautiful hard work and incredible talent!

Beautiful space! I like the monochromatic scheme- something I am not the best about sticking to. It is true that while decorating relates to “stuff” it is so worth taking the time to create inviting places to gather and be. Thanks for the inspiration.

Hi
How did you make those orbs with the old metal rings? Did you have them welded?

Gorgeous space!!! What type of rock are you using for the bas? I have an area I want to create much like yours but don’t know what type of stone to use. Thank you in advance for letting me know!

Hi Kim, we used 3/4 crushed granite for the rock 🙂 We have larger crushed granite as a rain barrier around our home, so I wanted there to be consistency in the color even though the rocks for the patio are a smaller size.

Great job Bre! Love the larger pieces you picked for seating and the really great mix of planters too. Awesome find with the rings for the orbs! This is exactly the colour scheme for my work in progress patio/backyard. I’m really enjoying all the outdoor spaces in this tour.
