It’s no secret I love incorporating vintage pieces into my decor. I love the rustic patina, and loads of texture they add to any space. It’s a perfect balance to all the white I have in our home, and keeps things from feeling too stark. Sometimes I know we can come across vintage items, but maybe we aren’t quite sure what to do with them, or how to decorate them. Today I’m sharing with you how I created a vignette in our dining room using a vintage toolbox I picked up last summer at a local barn sale.
I created this farmhouse vignette on the buffet in our dining room. I love the size of the antique tool caddy, and the surface it provides to decorate in. I always feel like the easiest way to create a vignette is to start with a tray of some sort to corral all the items in, and it gives you a clear defined space to work with.
I started by centering the tool box in between our lamp, and a large farmhouse pitcher filled with flowers from our yard. Then I added my largest pieces first. Antique breadboards provide a nice contrast up against the white board and batten wall behind it. To break up all the wood tones, I added a vintage silver platter, that also helps add a different material into the space.
Next I added my smaller items in the front section of the tool caddy. I used some of my favorite farmhouse accessories – pitchers, candles, table linens, cupcake stands – all in white to balance out the wood tones from the tool caddy and breadboards used.
One of my favorite tricks for adding decor into the dining room is removing all the plastic wrap from candle sticks, and then placing them in a clear vase. It’s decor but practical at the same time because they are at hands reach when you want to have a candle light dinner.
So hopefully now you will be inspired to create your own simple farmhouse vignette, or purchase that vintage item with a new sense of purpose for what to do with it.
