Yep that’s right! That is exactly how I would describe our new curtains in our living room. Not too hot, too cold, but just right! In other words, not too dark, not too light, but just right! You see I love all white, truly I do, but sometimes it feels just a little to blan for me after awhile. And while throw pillows can certainly add their pop of color, I really just wanted something that would cause a bit more of a change.
So what did I do, I swapped out our white curtains for charcoal gray curtains. I liked them, but I didn’t love them. And after a few weeks they just felt too dark. I thought I would get used to them, but I didn’t. Sometimes when we make a drastic change, we have to give ourselves time to adjust. But I knew shortly after they were up, they were just a bit too dark for what I was wanting. So when Barn & Willow asked me to check out their luscious linen drapes, I became instantly smitten with their Mist Gray fabric.
Of course, I was feeling a little trigger shy, because of the experience I just had, but no worries they offer free fabric swatches. So I selected a few, but in the back of mind I knew I had found the perfect shade of gray.
Just enough, not too dark, not too light, and boy do they compliment the rest of our living room so well. It’s a match made in heaven. And it’s ok that it I didn’t get it right the first time with the darker gray panels. In design, and especially our homes, you have to be willing to try things out and make mistakes. Otherwise you will end up living in your home for 8 years without any curtains or pictures on the wall! {True story – I had a client one time, she was so paralyzed by making a wrong decision so she never started}.
I always joke that “texture” is my favorite color, but when you are dealing with a lot of neutral colors, that happen to be on the lighter side, texture is everything! I chose the Privacy lining for my curtains, because I still wanted to let some light in, but also help with the privacy.
Of course, they play perfectly with the grays for our winter decor, but I already know they are going to be perfect all year long. The best part was is they custom fit them to our room, which completely takes the guess work out of sizes, and you don’t end up with drapes that are too short, or way too long either.
Are you in the market for new drapes? Or are you ready to finally have the drapes of your dreams. Whether it’s custom drapes, or roman shades, Barn & Willow can help! They offer the finest quality, for a high end quality, but relaxed enough for any farmhouse!
Ready to get started?! You can order free fabric swatches HERE. Or perhaps you’d like to try a sample panel? No problem click HERE to get started! And right now they are offering Rooms FOR Rent readers 10% with code : BW&ROOMSFORRENT . I always joke that my number one wish list for Christmas is home decor items. But when you love it, you love it, and it’s just the same as receiving a pair of jeans or new shoes for me. My sisters tease me, but I don’t mind, because I have a home filled with everything that I love 😉

Bre, that is my fav color, too! Texture, and um, green. 😉 Can I send you a picture? I have a weird wall I really need to put curtains on, but the windows are off on the wall. It’s my DR, and it REALLY needs softness…I really want to put panels on the sides, but one side has about 8 inches before the wall…
And…where did you get that botanical print? LOVE it. Bless you, lady!
Bre says
Yes Lisa! you can absolutely send me an email – [email protected], and I will see if I can help. And the botanical print is from Vol. 25, it’s her Mistletoe print
Ardith says

Bre, I love the lighter shade of gray! They look so much better than either the white or charcoal. They balance out the room and give just the right amount of color.
Bre says
Thank you Sandy! I completely agree 🙂
