I am so excited to be sharing with you today the reveal of our sons room makeover!! This has been such a fun project to work on, and the transformation is night and day! We did a complete overhaul in our sons room, and transformed it into a space we all want to spend time in. I think my daughter is trying to convince him to do a room swap with her now, lol, but I have some things up my sleeve to freshen up her space next.
I partnered with Birch Lane and KILZ to give this space a makeover, and am thrilled with the outcome. All opinions are 100% my own. *This post contains affiliate links for your convenience, which means I make a tiny portion of the sale with no additional cost to you whatsoever.*
I shared in my Inspirations post for this space that before we brought in any new pieces we gave his walls a complete makeover. We installed 2 inch boards to create this floor to ceiling board and batten look. I will be sharing a full tutorial on this next week. Once the boards were installed, I painted the entire room Weathered Windmill. An exclusive color from Joanna Gaines Magnolia Home “Market Collection” line from KILZ. I am so impressed by the quality of the paint and how well it covered. I don’t think I ever want to use another brand of paint again! It’s like finding the right color, the first time. The moment it went up on the walls, I was thrilled with outcome.
Along with loving Legos, our son also loves Star Wars. So while I chose all neutral pieces with character for his room, we also incorporated a few things that he loves to make his room feel extra special. Instead of making everything Star Wars I chose to incorporate them in small doses, that way as he grows and his likes change, his whole room doesn’t have too.
One of those key neutral pieces was choosing a bed with classic style he can grow into. He loves his new Birch Lane, with it’s classic metal frame. It has a timeless look, and great quality, so I know it will last him all of his years under our roof.
Adding character, but still leaning towards the neutral vibe is this beautiful Birch Lane
The sunken aged brass pulls had me at hello, but I also love the details on both sides of the dresser. Corner brackets make it feel like a custom piece, and add loads of character, with lots of storage. It has a vintage feel with clean lines to keep things feeling fresh.
On the opposite side of his room we created a desk area, that functions as a creative space, and a place to provide storage. It’s a triple win for functionality in this small space. One that provides multiple uses for plenty of years to come.
We DIY’d this sawhorse style desk, because most desks were too large for his room, and didn’t provide the storage we needed. Instead of having drawers, a long shelf on the bottom that has the ability to store multiple things, will work great as his hobbies change.
Crates to hold all of his books work great for now, but can easily be swapped out when needed. Underneath the shelf is still enough space to tuck away more bins or baskets for storage.
These Birch Lane are amazing. We were able to consolidate four bins of overflowing toys into these 2 totes, with plenty of room left over. Their durable fabric won’t wear out over time, and their flexible sides make storing just about anything a breeze, including never ending piles of Legos!
Keeping with the industrial vibe in his room, this Birch Lane provides just that! It’s sized perfect for him, while not being too small like other “kid” sized furniture. He loves that it feels more grown-up, and of course that it swivels, ha ha!
Next to his desk space we hung this wall cubby organizer, that gives him space to store more items, and hooks at his level to hang up things, without taking up valuable floor space.
He loves that he has a space that he can store his own pieces how he likes to, and hanging it at his height helps him feel like this space is all his own, and can take pride in it.
I think though one of his favorite new things is this new barn light pendant from Birch Lane. The finish matches his bed frame, tying the whole look together, while also adding interest.
Before his room was a bit bland, and lacking character to go with his personality. It felt more little boy, and honestly a bit more like a quest bedroom. Now it’s full of interest! A warm and inviting space that he loves to spend time in.
Listed below are all the sources for his space. I hope you enjoyed our sons room makeover as much as we loved creating this space for him. Having a new space to head back to school with, has been so refreshing for him, and a great way to start off his school year!

Great room, love everything as am sure your son does. It sure is big change from previous version of his room. He must be proud to show it off to his friends. Love the batten touches.
Been wanting to do something to add some charm/character to our walls but Mr.Furry grumbles about all the work, heavens he’s not that old yet, just 75. I’m 77 and I want to do a lot and do it. am always making something to doll the joint up.
Enjoy tomorrow.

Good morning, Bre. What a spiffy room. I especially love, love, love that paint. That color. Perfection. Isn’t it great to get the result you have in your mind? It never happens. Not the first try, anyway. You have great taste, as always, and the room blends so well with all your other choices. Great job. Lucky boy.
