You guys, it’s that time of year again. You know when the weather starts to cool off, and you begin to crave comfort food. Those warm dishes that settle in your belly just right. I love to bake all year round, but especially love baking in the fall. Today I’m teaming up with my favorite blogging friends to share some fall recipes with you to help get you in the mood! If you caught my title and thought it was a typo, well … I my dish is exactly what it says. I came up with this idea to combine my two favorite fall baking traditions. Apple Crisp + Apple Pie = Apple Prisp! It combines the best of both, a yummy buttery pie crust, and the sweet crumble that’s on top of a crisp.
I love a good crisp. In fact it really doesn’t feel like fall until I smell that yummy apple crisp baking in the oven. I love how easy they are to make, and throw together. However sometimes I crave a flaky pie crust as well!
My husband named this one, and I have to admit it’s kind of catchy, and super cute when the little ones request it as well! I make my pie crust in the food processor. It’s a no fail for me every time, and you can freeze them as well. You can also use a store bought crust if you don’t have the time to make a crust, and it will work just as well.
I start by pressing the pie crust into a pie plate, and making sure it’s evenly spread out. I fill the pie crust with 2 rows of fresh apple slices. I sprinkle a little cinnamon over the apples before topping with the crumble.
I evenly top with the crumble mixture and in the oven it goes. It doesn’t take long before that sweet aroma fills my kitchen, and curious minds are wondering in to find out what that delicious smell is!
It’s thin like a tart. Tastes like an apple pie with a flaky crust, but has all the goodness of a the crisp with the delicious crumble on top!
Recipe :
Ingredients
1 pie crust
2-3 apples
1 stick of butter
1 cup of flour
1 cup of oats
1 cup brown sugar (packed)
dash of cinnamon
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375.
- Press prepared pie crust into pie plate.
- Peel and slice apples, and spread sliced apples into crust. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
- Combine flour, oats, brown sugar in a bowl. Stir in melted butter. Evenly spread over apples.
- Bake for 35-40 min. Until top is slightly browned and crust is fully cooked.
Of course it’s delicious served with vanilla ice cream, but sometimes I find myself enjoying some with my morning coffee as well! If you are like me, and love both apple pie and apple crisp, you will love this combined recipe of an apple prisp!
