I have a secret. Ok maybe not a major secret, and you may have already noticed it, but I’ve been trying out my green thumb! This is still a new endeavor on my end, so the jury is still out on if I have one, but I have been testing the waters a bit and so far – dare I say – successful?! So let’s talk plants, because we all know I’m a big fan of faux! However today I’m going to show you some new recent plants that have popped up in my life, or should I say house, even though nothing green is popping up outside yet.
A few weeks ago I was picking out some flowers for my Spring Tablescape, and while at the flower market I happened to glance over and see this happy little plant on the shelf. It had wider leaves, and was a little vine-y, similar to those typical indoor spider plants. I glanced over, then glanced again, before finally getting the courage to walk over and check it out. Even though I had no previous history of being successful with house plants before, something inside me whispered “give it a try”. So before I could talk myself out of it, I scooped it up and told the cashier “I’ll take this too”. Insert big GULP! What was I getting myself into. When I got home I felt like I had to introduce it to my house. Placing it down in different spots, to see just where it’s landing spot would be.
It ended up landing right on the little metal table I have nestled in between our two chairs in the living room, and felt like a good place. The lady at the flower market assured me they were easy to care for and pretty hardy, so I figured why not. It doesn’t need a ton of light, but our living room is pretty light filled, and I water it once a week.
I’ve even spotted some new growth, which I figure must be a good sign! So you can say this sort of lit a little spark. The next week I was at the grocery store, and happen to glance upon another little happy plant. Seriously, I think once you see one, you start seeing them everywhere.
Before I knew it, this plant ended up in my cart too! I started panicking just a bit, thinking to myself “what are you doing, you don’t even know if you can keep the first one alive, now you are bringing home another one!”. I did not want to over commit, but I kind of couldn’t help myself.
Since this one had similar tendencies like the first plant I figured I could handle it. I can handle it, RIGHT?! I’ve since repotted this one in a slightly larger pot since what I had on hand didn’t seem quite big enough.
Then something crazy happened! I got a text from my sweet friend, who happens to be a plant guru, asking me if I wanted her fiddle leaf fig? Ummm – YEAH! I’ve always wanted one of those, but too much of a chicken to try it out. She was wanting one of slightly different shape, and didn’t have room for this one, so I inherited it.
You may have gotten a glimpse of her on Instagram. I gave her a brief cameo last week. And yes we’ve established it is a “her”. And there is a poll going on right now about what her name should be, but honestly I’m too afraid to commit because I feel like it’s still too soon, and dare I say I don’t want to get too attached in fear of the worst?
When my friend gifted her to me, she told me she will need a bigger pot soon. So I just recently repotted her. I grabbed an inexpensive plastic planter from Target, and then placed it in this basket I got from HomeGoods.
She’s been pretty happy here in our dining room, getting lots of indirect sunlight, and I’m doing my best to remember to water it, but not over water it, lol!
So I’ve taken the leap, and I am exercising my “green thumb”, and I will be sure to keep you updated on the progress. I’m still a huge fan of faux greens, which you see in my Spring Mantle and Spring Dining Room posts, but in the meantime I’m going to work on stretching my green thumb see how it goes!
Stay in touch!

They all look wonderful. I am a plant wimp as well and afraid to try any. I did recently get a small one from my office where I work and so far it is alive. You are inspiring me to consider another though. Thanks for sharing.

Congrats and welcome to the houseplant keeping club! Just don’t overwater them( 2x a week/ diluted miracle grow every 2 wks) and you’ll have great success. 😀

I love live plants around but I’m like you, I either over water or under water. I still keep trying though…
