Hello Friends!! I’m so excited to be sharing our Master Bedroom refresh with all of you today. I think you could say it spurred off of our recent master bathroom makeover. I’ve joked before that once I have a paintbrush in my hands there is no stopping me, lol! What started out to be a little refresh sort of turned into quite the makeover, and I think you will see why. From new paint, to new lights, to a new mattress with new bedding (yes! a new mattress), even my nightstand ended up getting a total overhaul (shown HERE), nothing was safe. However, I will say that having a newly refreshed master bedroom feels so good, I honestly never want to get out of bed, but more on that soon! You may remember me sharing with you some Dark Accent Wall colors I was loving lately in a post HERE. I had been craving some change for quite some time, and a moody wall. Well what was only going to be just a dark accent wall, turned into a whole room being painted, even the doors and trim! Take a look –
We originally installed a DIY board and batten treatment in our room years ago, and always had it painted white. Lately though I’ve been loving the look of everything painted the same color when it comes to dark colors. I feel like it makes it a bit more dramatic and cozy, which adds so much character.
Not to mention it cuts down on time needed to cut out around the trim. When it’s all getting painted the same color it goes so much faster. You can see above a closer look at the trim and doors all painted the same color as the wall.
For our new wall color in our master bedroom I chose Duke Gray from the Magnolia Homes paint collection, provided by Kilz.
It has hints of gray, blue and green in it, and it is the perfect calming color to add lots of warmth to a space. I love how much out headboard pops up against it and really stands out now.
Of course there are so many factors that go into making your bedroom a plush retreat, and I’ll share more decor details in a minute. But honestly, if your bed isn’t comfy than all that extra stuff really doesn’t matter, right?! I know you’ve been there, because I’ve been there too. I comfy bed and a good nights sleep can make all the difference in the world. Over the past couple of years I’ve really focused in on making good choices when it comes to our bedding.
You can have all the pretty throw pillows in the world, but at the end of the day it’s the actual bedding that you sleep on that counts. I’ll never forget this weekend away we spent in Martha’s Vineyard shortly after we were married. It was the cutest bed and breakfast, exactly what you would want to experience on the New England coastal island. I’ll be honest though the one thing that I remember most to this day, twelve years later – is how soft the bed was! They had layered down comforters and the softest white quilts, and the silkiest sheets, it was pure heaven!
I knew right away, that I needed to make a drastic change to our current bed in a bag situation we had going on at home on our own bed, lol. I have never underestimated the power of good sheets after that trip. We recently received new sheets from our bed from Therapedic International and I am so excited about them. They remind me of the exact ones we had when we stayed at the cute bed and breakfast on Martha’s Vineyard.
You’ve heard me talk about how important the details are in design, I’m telling you the sheets are all the details! The 450- thread count Therapedic sheet set is the perfect weight, and they are soft and silky, but not too silky. I got them in gray and couldn’t be happier.
I’ve gone through my fair share of searching for the right sheets, and even fell for the ones that claimed they were the best, only to find them pilling weeks later. It was so annoying. I can honestly say I don’t ever want to but another kind of sheet set again after having these. And do you want to know my favorite part?
They are labeled! Please tell me I’m not the only one who has washed their sheets only to flip back and forth the fitted sheet trying to figure out which way is the right way to put it on! I’m laughing just thinking about the struggle, but not anymore with these therapedic sheets. They also have feature a TherFit technology, so they stay in place. No more creeping up one side of the bed over night, these sheets will hug mattresses up to 18″ thick!
I also added the 500- Thread Count Therpedic Mattress Pad for extra comfort. I made the mistake early on in our marriage of underestimating the power of incorporating a mattress pad. I always remember my mom putting them on our beds as a teenager, and thought she was just being fussy. Nope, turns out she was right, and it really is that extra step for added comfort, and added protection for the mattress. Plus, with stain repel technology and odor eliminator I know that our new mattress will stay in great condition!
Another plushy item that really makes a difference in how we sleep are our new Therapedic TruCool Memory Foam Side Sleeper pillows. My husband and I love how they’re made specifically for our sleep style, and how they never get hot in the middle of the night!
I mentioned in the beginning of the post that our master bedroom refresh also included a new mattress! There are so many new options now for buying a mattress – SO MANY!
And I get it, some people – i.e. husbands, have to touch it. They need to sit on it, lay down it, getting a new hybrid mattress is a big purchase. Therapedic has been around for 60 years. So unlike all the other “new” names in the industry, they have a long-standing history behind their name, and they recognize that people are changing the way they shop. With online shopping more convienent now than ever, they’ve created Agility bed for just that! And to top-it off, Agility bed is made in the USA, which is uncommon for some mattresses that ship in a box.
They offer 100 Night Sleep, risk free, and if you don’t love it they will refund your money. The guarantee makes it hard to pass up on, but I love knowing a company stands behind their product confidently, and honestly for me, since I do 90% of my shopping online, it’s a no-brainer.
Now let me tell you, my husband was still skeptical. Trust me ladies, he can be so stubborn sometimes. He sees right through all the sales gimmicks and tricks commercials advertise. But you know what he didn’t see, how much he would absolutely love this mattress. If you could only here my reassuring voice telling him to just try it out, as he unpackaged our new mattress that showed up in a box. OH man, his face was priceless. I’ll try not to gloat too much, but now he’s praising our new mattress to all of our friends!
He has quite the list of extensive injuries related to years of playing sports, including a few injuries that resulted in some serious surgeries. I joke with him about it now, but what was never funny was his inability to get a good nights sleep as a result of all of those injuries. I felt so bad for him, but not anymore. I swear every night when he climbs into bed now he exclaims how much he doesn’t hurt anymore at night.
As moms, and wives, we want nothing more than to be able to provide the extreme comfort and care to our families. From how we care for our homes, to the meals we cook for them, it goes without saying. It feels so good to know that he now has that same comfort every night with our new Agility mattress. I feel like I’ve won when it comes to the ultimate in creating a cozy, comfortable master bedroom retreat for us!
Now – back to those details! The artwork on the wall is a great added bonus to our decor! This beautiful custom piece is from Copper Corners. I love how it picks up all the different shades of blue we have in our space, and pops so nicely against our new dark wall color.
You can find it exclusively in my curated collection with Painted Fox! Along with our headboard!
Of course you may have already noticed our new lighting! We installed these sconces from Wayfair on both sides of our bed, which not only provide the perfect amount of light if someone wants to stay up later. They provide so much more valuable room on our nightstands, which is so helpful given we didn’t have that much space on either side of our bed to begin with.
And my nightstand ended up getting a complete makeover as well. I stripped the paint off, sanded it down, and you can catch the whole tutorial HERE, in case you missed it.
I’ll be back to share with you an easy DIY art tutorial on how I made the framed fern art hanging above our bed, but now a gift for you!

Love your simple and welcoming bedroom, Bre! Ours is so bare right now; we are relatively new homeowners and our room is always the last space I think to work on. You’ve inspired me though! 🙂
