Hello Friends! It sure does feel like summer is in full swing once we start using our outdoor patio! Even though we are in the last days of school, we’ve been dining alfresco, roasting marshmallows around the fire, and soaking in every moment of these longer days. It’s like one big giant exhale with the school year ending, a bit of a slow down from routine and rushing out the door in the morning, and it feels so good!
The Seasonal Simplicity Summer series is back today; and this time we’re all about simple summer decor in our outdoor spaces! Patios, decks, backyards… bring them on! I can’t wait to take in all the gorgeous outdoor inspiration being shared today…
We love spending time on our patio, not just when we are having fires. It’s the perfect spot to have coffee in the morning, or curl up with a book, and relax the day away. Our patio has expanded quite a bit over the last few years, and with the recent expansion to the left next to our barn.
It’s set back just slightly behind our house, so it almost feels like a bit of an escape. No piles of laundry standing at you, or dishes in the sink needing to be washed. Just plenty of space to soak in all the fresh summer air.
The main seating area is around our fire pit. We first created this space a few years ago, and each year have added on since then.
One of the newest additions this year, was adding this hammock to the seating area. My kids have been spending every spare second on it, and it’s slowly becoming our go-to hang out spot.
I shared my potting bench on Monday. I love having this set up here, because it’s convenient when I want to add some extra plants, but also provides extra serving space when we are entertaining.
Once we opened up the area to the left of the barn this past spring, when we rented a bobcat, we moved the table from in front of the barn over to the side.
So I moved two of the adirondack chairs over from the fire pit, to create an additional little seating are that overlooks our yard.
Now that I’ve been working on our outdoor patio for the past few years, one of the things I’ve noticed is that plants add a lot. I like to call plants the “curtains” of outdoor patios. Even though our patio space is surrounded by mostly woods. It’s all the pots filled with plants tucked in around our furniture that really makes this space feel cozy and inviting.
And I am a firm believer in you can totally mix together your pieces. Not everything has to be bought from a store. I needed a bigger side table outside, but before I started scoping the stores, I started shopping my barn. I had these left over pallet boards, so I painted them white, and had the hubby screw them together, and then cut the sides making a circle.
I flipped one of my flea market galvanized bins upside down, and placed the DIY table top on it, and called it good. It was a fuss free solution, not to mention free, and has plenty of space to rest a drink on.
We also DIY’d the sofa table years ago, and it’s the perfect spot to citronella candles to keep the bugs away at night. I’m in LOVE with this large round white coconut citronella from Flash Point Candles. It gives off the slightest fragrance of sweet coconut, with non of citronella smell, and does the best job at keeping the bugs away! I also bring out some pieces from inside. Like this cute little farmhouse table, which you can find at Painted Fox. It’s slender which makes it the perfect piece to place next to our outdoor sofa, without taking up a lot of space.
You can see a peek of our new outdoor dining area behind our sofa in the photo above. I will be sharing more on that space next week, but in the meantime be sure to check out all of my blogging friends who are sharing their outdoor spaces below:

I am obsessed with this space. It’s just magic. It looks like the perfect spot to spend the summer. Curious how the furniture holds up in the elements. I have to clean our porch all the time – dust and pollen and the like. Just wondering if you have the trouble with the wooded area nearby. (Or maybe I’m just not much of a housekeeper. ;))

GORGEOUS! I am always so envious of those who have woods in the backyard. I want a forest! It adds so much to the feel of your space. You have a beautiful way of adding lovely details everywhere. I love it all!
