New Darker Paint Color in the Dining Room

09/27/2018 By Bre

I took the plunge. I pulled the trigger, and I didn’t look back, and you want to know what?! I am LOVING it!! If you caught my post last week, than you probably already know what I’m talking about. I shared how I was contemplating a few different dark shades of gray-navy blue, and how honestly I had been wanting to paint this color for over a YEAR! Yes you read that correctly, over a year! While I’m happy to say, I made a choice, I took the leap, I went for it, and I LOVE it!! Yep, it’s true! I painted our dining room, after debating to do it for over a year, and I love the new darker color! Take a look!

If you caught my paint comparison HERE, you know I was really weighing out the options. It does come across a touch bit more blue in these photos, honestly probably because of the editing needed to keep the shadows up, but I ended up choosing Peppercorn by Sherwin Williams.

What I was afraid of was that it would make our dining room feel too dark, but because we have the white board and batten treatment on the walls, if anything it just seems to make the white appear brighter. Crazy right?! The architectural detail on our ceiling really pops now too!

The best part is, since it’s the same color as our island, it keeps a nice cohesive feel when you go from room to room, as you can see below.

Love the dark color. Looks great with all the white!! I didn’t want to bug you so I went looking to the sources but can’t find your dining room bench. Love it. Could you tell me where you got it?

Ohh no problem at all!! I got this bench from HomeGoods, but I sourced some similar ones here – https://roomsforrentblog.com/2017/11/new-dining-room-updates/ πŸ™‚ Sorry I play furniture musical chairs sometimes, so I forget not everything in one picture is listed as a source in another, lol πŸ™‚

It is truly lovely! I think it works so well because you have so much variant to textures. If your ceiling were flat, or the walls flat, it wouldn’t have been so good! It is just what the room needed. The iland color continues the thread into the next room, keeping the color from being isloated. Well done!

Thank you so much!! It truly does feel that way! You put words to the exact feeling the room gives πŸ™‚

The Peppercorn is a great shade, looks very nice in your dining room. Contrasts well with the white board and batten walls. Great job!

    Hello Bre,
Your new dining room color is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You’re right. It blends so well with the island in the kitchen and draws the eye in. That is the first thing I noticed when I opened your blog. Your home is BEAUTIFUL I enjoy reading your posts and looking at your pictures for inspiration. It’s usually the last thing I do before I leave my office at the end of a long day. It’s a wonderful way to relax before I hit the road and head home.

    Take care, Denise
