8 Styles of Front Porch Decor

04/15/2019 By Bre

I shared yesterday some of my thought process for how I go about refreshing our front porch in the spring! It’s my favorite way to make a welcome statement for anyone who comes over! Today I’ve put together 8 different styles to refresh your curb appeal, whether you have a front porch, a front stoop, or just your front door. They are sure to make your friends and family welcome!

the TRADITIONAL

There’s a part of me that is completely drawn to this monochromatic traditional look. I personally just bought this same welcome mat for our front porch, and I love the black and white cabana striped pillows. It’s very reminiscent to how I styled our patio area, and I love the classic appeal this timeless style seems to always have.

the TRANSITIONAL

Transitional to me is a lot like eclectic without the bold colors or patterns. It’s a bit more relaxed than traditional, and has a pieced together look. I don’t believe in decorating rules when it comes to style, and transitional is totally fit for that relaxed, pieced together look.

Cottage
the COASTAL

I love the coast! Growing up in New England means summer spent at the beach, and one of my favorite things to do when we go is admire all the houses. If you are drawn to coastal style, you will love the navy & white rug layered underneath the just welcome mat, the crisp white, and galvanized metal patina found in the planters.

Farmhouse
the FARMHOUSE

For me Farmhouse is relaxed. It can be flexible in the pieces you choose, but some key pieces are sure tried and true to the farmhouse style. A gooseneck barn light, farmhouse style lanterns, and a simple wreath are a great way to make a farmhouse statement to any front porch.

Eclectic
the ECLECTIC farmhouse

Because I think there are so many different variations of farmhouse decor, I’m calling this style “Eclectic farmhouse”. It’s eclectic because even though none of the finishes match, it’s pieced together for an overall cohesive look. Its’ relaxed like farmhouse, but a total mix ‘n match of different styles and elements, from a farmhouse light, to a more modern house number, to contemporary lanterns.

Modern
the MODERN

This style has a clean, minimalistic feel, however with a more modern style bench and outdoor light it has the simplistic feel modern is known for. The black color offers high contrast, while the clean lines of each piece keep things feeling practical and functional.

Coastal
the COTTAGE

For me, cottage and coastal styles can have very similar elements. And depending on personal taste, can mix ‘n match effortlessly. Gray washed planters, and white exterior lights lean itself to a more cottage look complimenting the aged look you see in most cottages. It’s quaint, inviting, and feels oh-so cozy!

Urban
the URBAN

This urban style is such a mix of modern, industrial and rustic, making it feel so fresh! Warm wood tones contrast the black color incorporated in the light finish and modern rectangle planter. It’s all about the balance to complete this urban look. Too much wood tones, and it feels too rustic, while too much black can leave things feeling more modern. It’s a fresh take on incorporating all 3 styles beautifully.

I’m such a visual person, and sometimes I need to pull all of my pieces together first visually, when I’m feeling unsure of where to go design wise. Sometimes I know exactly what I want, and other times I overthink it. Honestly I feel like many of these pieces could mix and match between the styles, but than this would never end, lol.
