You’ve probably maybe only heard me mention it once here on the blog, but if you have visited our house, it’s inevitable I always end up talking about our kitchen floor. I refuse to give it any kind of attention here on the blog, because well, it drives me nuts! Yes, nuts! I didn’t realize at the time we moved in, just how much I would loathe this white tile floor.
For starters, we have a dirt driveway, and we use our kitchen door as the main entrance for our house. So you can imagine the amount of dirt that gets tracked in on a regular day, now lets multiply that amount when it rains, never mind in the spring when the snow is melting and it’s an eternal muddy mess outside. Yep, you guessed it, all that dirt and mud gets tracked in and covers our floor, and I find myself having to sweep more than once a day. I like a clean house, but that is way too much cleaning for me.
When we bought the house, I was just happy to have something that was bright and clean, little did I know that it wasn’t going to stay that way. The previous owners installed the flooring, and much to my dismay they didn’t seal the grout, so that white tile with matching bright, white grout didn’t stay that way for long. A few years after we lived here, I got up the nerve to paint all the grout. After multiple Pinterest fails on how to clean grout, that didn’t work, I spent an entire week crouched down on our kitchen floor painting every single grout line. It worked! Our floors looked clean once again, but that only lasted a few months. I even sealed the grout after I painted it, but found myself having to paint it again less than 2 years later.
I gave up, at that point I was determined that my kitchen floor would always look perpetually dirty, and you can imagine how frustrating that is when it’s the first room people see when they come into your home.
We have been talking for years about replacing the kitchen floor, but it just wasn’t at the top of our to-do list. You can imagine my excitement when I recently got invited to come and check out the new Floor & Decor store for their grand opening! Their newest location is just about an hour from me, in Saugus, MA, and I was totally impressed with their 90,000 square foot showroom!
Of course you know the whole time I was thinking about finding something to replace our kitchen floor with. They carry everything in stock, which means if you see something you like, they will pull it for you, and you leave with it that day. I can’t tell you how many times we’ve been shopping for tile before, only to find out other stores don’t carry in stock, or they don’t have enough, which can be so frustrating when you want to finish a project that weekend.
I had never been to a Floor & Decor store before, so walking around their new Saugus location, I was amazed at just how many options they had. I felt like I was browsing all my favorite Pinterest inspirations under one roof. They carry over 470 selections in decorative tile, over 60 choices of wood-look tile, and carry all the building materials and tools you would need to complete the job, making it a one-stop shop.
They even offer free classes on tile installation, which would have been so helpful before we installed the subway tile in our downstairs bathroom makeover.
One of my favorite services they provide is free design consultations. I got to sit down with one of their designers and discuss my kitchen with her, it was like having my own interior designer on the spot!
I was so curious to know what her thoughts were for options on my kitchen floor dilemma, and can see how helpful this would be for other people needing some guidance in putting together design elements for their projects.
After we discussed the issues I was having with my current floor, we took a walk through the showroom, and I pointed out different flooring options I liked. I picked out 3 wood look tile to compare, and 3 cement looking tile to compare. I guess you could say I’m a creature of habit, because when we got back to her desk to compare them all, I definitely picked options that were very similar.
I narrowed it down to 3 options from the 6 shown above, but I knew I really needed to see the tile in my kitchen to get a feel for how it would look. We picked out coordinating grout colors, and with the ease of a button, the designer was able to save all my selections, so there was no guess work once I decided.
Even though they are all similar, each varies in tone and style, so I left with 3 samples, and couldn’t wait to get home to compare in our kitchen!
The entire process was a breeze. From the huge selection of in-stock flooring options, to the easy to navigate store layout, to sitting down with the designer and letting her help me decide on what to do. This will for sure be my go-to place for any of our upcoming flooring projects.

I have not heard of this store but will definitely do a search since I am not far from the MA line. My kitchen floor is vinyl tile I chose when I was a bookkeeper at a Flooring/Furniture/ Appliance store. Approximately 14 years ago. It was a good quality Mannington vinyl and I got a nice employee discount. But it’s like a double edged sword. It’s a stone tile pattern in assorted tones. It hides the dirt well which was important with lots of furry feet in my household. Also a main traffic area. The bad side is there are so many nooks and crannies in the pattern I know when it’s dirty and have to take a scrub brush and be down on my knees approach. No fun for sure. I’ll be watching for your choice and the reason for the choice.

Ohhh thank you Julie! It was truly an amazing store. I could not get over the amount of inventory they had!! We plan on starting the kitchen floor in the next couple of weeks, and I can’t wait!

Just finished a master bath remodel. All my shower and floor tile came from Floor & Decor. I was impressed for the very same reasons you stated. We have wood floors in all our bedrooms, office and living room. Tile that looks like yours throughout the rest of the house. . Replacing it is next on our to do list so I am very invested in your selection. I need something that will look good butting up against the wood. Good luck!!
