Hello Friends!! I’m so excited to share our farmers porch with you today, all spruced up for the holidays. I’m not going to lie, I think it’s my favorite way our porch has been decorated for the holidays so far, but it could be the fresh snow we got earlier this week that’s making it look extra festive!
Come and take a look ~
If you are coming over from Grace In My Space – welcome! I just love how Sarah decorates her home for the holidays, especially all those adorable bottle brush trees she uses throughout each space!
My Christmas Porch
Earlier this week, we got our first real snowstorm here in New England. Sure we had seen some dustings before, and a few snow flurries flying, but nothing that didn’t melt shortly after. It snowed for two days straight, and we got over 2 feet of snow!
When I was a kid, it didn’t feel like Christmas until it snowed. Sure we would have a Christmas in the past when there was no snow – but those were rare. Having snow for Christmas feels like a staple around here, one that as I kid I couldn’t wait for.
Christmas Porch Decorating Tips ~
I wanted to break down how I went about decorating out porch this year. They might be simple tips, but each one in itself can make a big impact on the areas you are decorating.
First I started by creating a focal point. Just like when I’m decorating a room inside, or a vignette I always create a focal point, so the eye has somewhere to focus first. In this case it was bringing in this new Christmas Tree sign from Harper Grace (found HERE).
I just loved the festive saying, and she makes all her signs out of reclaimed wood, so it just adds to the charm and character of the sign itself.
We had planned on hanging it over the bench, but when I rested it up there to see how it looked when I first got it, it just seemed to “fit” just how it was. So I added a faux garland hung on top of it, and love the festive greeting it gives every time we pull in the driveway.
Decorate with Seasonal Decor ~
This might sound like an obvious suggestion, but you would be surprised at just how quickly you can transform the feeling of a space just by adding some seasonal decor elements.
All the greenery on our porch is fake. Yep – you heard me right, with the exception of the fresh clipped cedar branches on the bench. But those will be brought inside for another project.
It didn’t take long for our porch to feel dressed for the holidays after I began bringing up all my tiny faux trees and garland from the basement. Honestly, before I started dragging everything out I thought I was going to have to go out and buy more greens, but once I got everything in place, I was reminded just how much using seasonal greens can help a space look festive in no time.
Adding Cozy Layers ~
We don’t do much porch sitting these days, but that doesn’t mean our porch still can’t look inviting. Since our porch is covered, I don’t have to worry about the pillows getting wet, and they add such a cozy welcome, even if they aren’t getting “used” right now.
While I love decorating the inside of our home for the holidays, I like to make our porch equally as welcoming. Not forgetting that it’s the first place people see when they come to our home, and I hope they feel welcomed before they even step inside.
Next up on today’s tour is Modern Glam. Ashley is also sharing her front porch, and I love her colorful, holiday welcome! Especially her wreath with mini colorful bottle brush trees tucked in it too!
