I started by removing all the added decor from our Living Room and stripped the room down to the bare essentials. Our sofa and area rug were all that remained. Then I shared step by step how I add pieces back into our living room – layer by layer. So many of the pieces of decor that I have in our living room I consider my home decor staples, so today I’m sharing my favorite home decor staples, that I love to use when adding layers to the rooms in our home.

I am living proof that choosing the right area rugs can either make or break your space. Don’t believe me, you can read all about the area rug that was NOT right for our space HERE, and how getting rid of it was the best thing I could have down for my true style to come forth in our living room.
I love to layer rugs, because I feel it can also add yet another cozy layer to the over all look of your space. Above are a few different ways I’ve done this, while still maintaining my love for a more neutral look. Below you can see the side by side comparison.

Adding throw pillows to your sofa is another great way to create a cozy and inviting look. Not only does it help add some depth to your sofa, it will also compliment the overall look of the space. This is one of the most inexpensive ways you can add layers, and change up your look seasonally too.

Adding Baskets ~
I love to incorporate baskets and trays of all sizes. Not only is this another way to add in a different material to the space, they often bring in a sense of warmth with their added texture, and are a great way to corral decor items, or provide a place for all those throw pillows to get tossed, when they aren’t on your sofa.
