Hello Friends!! With the holidays behind us, I brought the last bins of Christmas decor down to our basement – today! Thankfully, it was mostly the Christmas decor from the kids room, but it feels so good to have the house back down to a clean slate. I just finished swapping over my pillow covers, back to something neutral for the winter months, and it got me thinking about all the little changes I do in our living room throughout the year. I know you see it when I share our living room for each seasonal home tour, but I thought it would be fun to point out how I change things from season to season, all rounded up in one post. Sort of a Before & After, but more or less just the After’s. So today I’m sharing the different looks our living room has throughout the year.
I often highlight these changes, whenever I’m sharing the current seasonal home tour, but I thought it might be nice to break it out a little bit. Especially if you are finding yourself in a state of – how do I decorate my living room right now, after Christmas but before Spring?!
Winter …
I still find myself craving so much of that cozy texture that firsts shows up in my living room decor in fall. I start with a few subtle touches, and by Christmas it’s full-blown cozy texture all throughout our living room.
When I decorate for Christmas I try to make sure that at least half of my decor feels more “wintery” than “festive-holiday”, that way when I put away my Christmas decor our living room feels cozy and inviting.
Keeping things neutral, while letting the fabrics add variety is a great way to get more longevity from the holidays through winter.
Spring …
In spring, I’m ready for some pops of green! I crave it come the end of February, and usually I’m hitting out local nursery looking for some type of house plant I can add.

I love adding soft pastel colors along with pops of green, that really signify Spring is coming, even though sometimes we have been known to still get snow in April.
Late Spring…
Since our spring can be a little wishy-washy, I always end up freshening things up a bit more once I know spring has arrived, and summer is soon to follow. By the end of May our lilac buds begin to flower, and I can hardly hold back bringing out all my favorite blue’s for summer.
Summer …
For the summer months, I love bringing out all my navy blue for a nice bold pop! I’m not sure if it just reminds me of spending our summers at the beach, or the cool blue color of the pool, either way, I love to decorate with blue for summer.
Fall …
When the temperatures begin to dip, I find myself longing for the cozy textures again. Out come the darker colors, and plaid throw blankets. Cooler days have me wanting to spend time inside nesting, as I prepare for the longer winter months that are to come.
Everyday …
This winter, I’m finding myself wanting more of an everyday look. I have some white tulips on our coffee table, that just spoke to me when I saw them at the grocery store. Sometimes after all the Christmas decor is put away, I find myself craving a more simpler look, for everyday, rather than a particular season.
Currently, I have only white and gray throw pillows on our couch, for a quieter look. I’m in no rush to bring out my spring decor, but finding I’m wanting our spaces to feel clean, minimal, and fresh as we start this new year. I’m a firm believer that you should always decorate with what YOU are in the mood for. Nobody else gets a say in what I’m craving when it comes to decor, and I find myself happiest when our spaces reflect what I’m craving.
