Hello Friends!!
Thank you so much for all your sweet comments on Part 1 of our New Home Tour! Before we jump in to Part 2, I wanted to show you some of the inspiration photos I’ve been saving for the exterior of our home, and share some exciting news!! You’ve probably heard me say before, how vital I believe it is to have 3-5 inspiration photos when it comes to decorating the inside of your home, but I also believe the same is true when it comes to the outside of our homes as well! Gathering inspiration photos is so helpful in providing clarity to your design likes, as well as helping you see an end result to shoot for. This doesn’t mean that your space is going to come out exactly like the space in your inspiration photo, but it does help guide you, and give you vision when you are in the process of creating a space you love. So today I’m sharing the photos I’ve saved that are my inspiration for the exterior of our home.
Come and take a look ~
Before
I talked a little bit about the exterior color of our new home, when I gave you a tour of the outside HERE. I mostly referenced how we plan to change it, not because it’s a bad color, it’s just not “us”. I did some real thinking though, because with the chance to paint it, means the opportunity to try out a different color. Our last home was white, so I wasn’t sure if I wanted to try something different this time around.
The more I thought about it thought, the more I knew. To me this house just feels like it needs to be white. I also didn’t want to pant it a color that didn’t feel historically accurate to the year it was built in 1775. I know I have options, not everything was white back then, but it just feels right to me. And of course once I started pinning my inspiration, I knew – white was the right choice for me.
Exterior Color Scheme
I’ve always loved the house in the photo above. And while the house in the photo below feels more realistically like our new home, with the stone wall and all, they both have similarities that jump out to me. They are both white (obviously), but both are paired with a gray roof, and have a simpler landscape. The clean lines of the landscape resonates with me more, and really lets the house take center stage.
I also couldn’t resist sharing a photo of a white colonial covered in snow. Because here in New England, we are bound to have lots of snow, and I can’t wait to see how cozy our new house looks in the winter months.
Barn Color Scheme Inspiration
The current color of our barn is brown. Although it feels more of like a burnt/reddish brown, cosmetically it feels a bit dated. I’ve always loved the dark color of slate gray mixed with a navy blue. More on the gray side than blue, but a hue with enough of a subtle blue undertone in it. Since I want to paint the house white, I thought going drastically dark on the barn will not only make it pop, but give it the update it needs. I’ve included some photos below with a darker exterior color, and while I’m not looking to paint it black, these were the closest I could find to what I envision in my head.

Inspiration for Barn
Along with updating the outside lights on the barn, the roof on the barn will need attention in the next couple of years, and I’d love to replace it with either a metal roof or a light gray cedar shake, like we did on the front of our last barn.
And just because I loved the makeover we did on our barn at our last house, here is a photo of it for old times sake 🙂
I hope seeing some of my inspiration photos for the exterior of our new home helps you catch my vision for the outside. I often joke that I “talk in pictures”, so gathering photos for inspiration really helps me bring my vision to life!
And I’m so excited to tell you that I have partnered with Yardzen, who is now offering Exterior Design Packages, on the design of the exterior of our home. Instead of just looking at my inspiration photos and envisioning the design in my head, they put together an entire design portfolio for the exterior of our house. So I can see what it will look like on screen before starting any of the work. This means I get to see the entire vision come to life in online renderings to know for sure I will like it before taking the plunge.
You can see more about these services HERE, and I encourage you to take a look through their portfolio, because their Before & Afters are just breathtaking! I can’t wait to see what they come up with for our house, and will be sure to share it with all of you as well! Their packages include house color, windows and doors, roofing, and house numbers and lighting. If you are wanting to spruce up the exterior of your home, I would definitely check out these services.
Here is an example of their Before & After below ~
I can’t wait to get started, and I’m so excited to see what they come up with. We have BIG plans for the exterior of our new home (which you can see HERE), and I know this will be just the motivation we need to get started! I can’t wait to share more, so Stay Tuned!!
