Hello Friends!
Today I am sharing with you a brand new space from our (new to us) home. One that you have not seen before, and didn’t even make the cut in the New Home Tour (shared HERE), or the New Home Tour video (shown HERE). This room is located in the front of our house, just off of the kitchen, and when we first moved in it served as a space to hold moving boxes we were still going through. It was great to be able to shove some boxes off to the side (out of sight) when we first moved in and were unpacking, which is why this room never made the cut. But I’m happy to say we now have this room up and functioning as a home office, and I can’t wait for to see the transformation!
Come and see our New Home Office ~
As I mentioned this room is just off the kitchen, to the left, through the doorway at the end of the wood accent wall. The previous home owners had made this space into a home office as well, complete with a barn wood ceiling, and french door (to help quiet out the noise). I love this space because it’s tucked away in the front corner of the house, and the quaint size of the room, gives it such a cozy feel.
While we do have plans to transform this space into a study/library home office with custom built ins for my husband, for now I get to utilize this space while we wait until the budget allows for us to turn it into the more masculine space we are envisioning.
Here is the Before –
Before the walls were painted – BM : Stonybrook
I loved the paint color that was in this room before (in fact I helped pick it out), but in order to temporarily transform this office into a workspace for me, I knew I needed to paint the room a color that I would feel inspired by.
And let me just tell you I am still just as amazed at what the power of paint can do. I painted the room Snowbound by Sherwin Williams, and I just love how it transformed this room in the light and airy space I was craving.
All of the furniture we used in the space we already had, with the exception of a new office chair, I purchased from World Market. I love the tailored linen slipcover look it has, adding a little more elegance to the rustic antiques used in the space, but it’s also on wheels, which makes it so easy to maneuver in and out of the desk.
I picked up the desk two years ago off of FB Marketplace for my daughters room. You might remember seeing it in her room at our previous house HERE. I refinished the desk for her, but when we moved into our new house, it wouldn’t fit through her bedroom doorway. Problems of an old house with small doorways, and a solid wood desk that the legs can’t be removed. So the desk got put in here, and she got a new desk for her room.
Next up, is this amazing antique rolling cart I got from my sweet friend Mae. One day while chatting over coffee, we were talking about antique furniture, and I told her how I had been looking for years for a rolling cart, which she just happened to have lying around in her basement.
She was happy to pass it off to a good home, and I love how it can be used both as decoration and functional storage in my office. We have plans to redo the shelves where the spindles are sagging a bit, but for now I lightly sanded the frame, and she was good to go.
Lastly, is another FB Marketplace find, this cute little antique writing table. This was my daughters first desk, lol (are you noticing a trend here). You can see it in her room photos from my book. However she really needed a desk with drawers, which is why I ended up on the hunt for a different desk for her.
When I first picked it up, I sanded down the top, and painted the legs with a white wash technique (seen in the photo above). It stayed like that, until I moved it into this space, and with the freshly painted white walls, I wanted to paint the base to help it stand out a little bit more from the walls, and give the room some contrast.
I used paint that I had on hand, trying to save myself a trip to the store, and came up with this color. I mixed together 50/50 SW : Anonymous and SW : Accessible Beige, and came up with this taupey mushroom color. I love the warmth it adds, and the contrast to all the other wood tones in the room.
I love the unique size of this table, wider than a desk, but not quite as large as a kitchen table. It fits in this corner perfectly, and gives me a spot to display some inspiration that I am currently loving. Incorporating personal touches and creative storage options gives my JOY. It was one thing when I started setting up the furniture in here, but once I started bringing in the things that I love, the space came alive to me and feels immensely personal.
I am so happy with how this space turned out, and having it finished and set up has me really inspired to get some work done! Whether you work from home, or simply just love to create, have a designated space is game changer. It doesn’t have to be an entire room either. It could be a desk placed in front of a window, or a small table in the corner of a room. I talk a lot about this in my NEW book, The Gift of Home, in the chapter titled “The Flex Space | A Place to Create“.
I’m so passionate about having spaces like this in our homes, I included a whole chapter about it, and I give lots of examples on how to create one, especially if your home doesn’t have an extra room to use.

Hi Bre!
Just wanted to let you know that my husband gave me your new book, The Gift of Home, for my birthday last week. I have sat with either a cup of coffee or hot cocoa each day, enjoying this beautiful guide!
I have always felt that our home is a reflection of us. Our bedroom underwent a change a few weeks ago. We added a beautiful shiplap wall behind our bed and I love it!! Just a little more texture, right?
Your book may be the cause of a new Honey Do list!!
Loved your other house and certainly am enjoying your new one. Thanks for the inspiration!

What a great transformation with just a bit of elbow grease. Looks so much more like a Bre space now.
