Hi Friend!
It’s been awhile since I’ve shared a room reveal with you. I realize I haven’t even gotten around to sharing our first floor guest room reveal with you (I keep waiting for the perfect rug to finish that room off), but you might not have realized we have another spare bedroom on the second floor that we are using as guest room #2. Our first floor guest room has a king size bed and en suit bath, making it perfect for when our parents come for a visit. Upstairs, I’ve created the sweetest cottage inspired guest room with two antique Jenny Lind twin beds I found at a yard sale, and a few other second hand pieces of furniture.
Come and see ~
When we first moved in the room looked like this.
Before:
The previous owners used this bedroom as one of their boys, so it was painted the same blue that was in our sons room. I knew right away that I wanted to have two twin beds in this room, so we put the mattresses on the floor, and I placed my old nightstand in between them for storage.
Next, I had a left over paint from when I painted the kitchen, so I used that in here as a temporary fix. I painted the entire room Balboa Mist by: Benjamin Moore, and gave all the trim a fresh coat of white paint as well.
You can read more about my favorite trim paint and supplies HERE.
Next I was on the hunt for some twin bed frames looking on Facebook Marketplace and second hand stores. I was so excited when I found two antique Jenny Lind twin bed frames at yard sales that summer. I’ve always loved that charming character of the spindle details Jenny Lind style furniture is known for, and was thrilled when I scored both bed frames for $35!
A fresh coat of white spray paint was all these beauties needed to be brought back to life, and my cottage inspired guest room came to life!
After
Another second hand find was this sweet antique table my mom found on FB Marketplace for me. I loved the turned legs, and of course that sweet scallop detail under the drawer. It had the perfect cottage feel I was going for. I quickly refinished it, and added some new knobs to the drawer, and placed a large basket I found at HomeGoods underneath. I styled the new bedside table with a large white lamp (you might recognize from our previous living room), and this beautiful seagrass lantern from Purple Rose Home that can also be used as a vase!
I found these framed blue fern prints at HomeGoods last summer, and felt like they would be the perfect fit for my cottage inspired guest room, so I quickly placed them in my cart, and hung one over each of the twin beds. We also swapped out the ceiling light fixture for this white wooden bead ceiling light I found on Amazon – HERE.
I love making sure that towels are easy to find and accessible when I’m furnishing a guest room. Nothing is worse than a guest coming to stay and not being able to find any clean towels. This handled woven basket from Purple Rose Home is so sturdy, and the perfect size, it can also double as a bathroom caddy, which is nice for guests who don’t want to keep all their belongings scattered about in the bathroom.
Here is another angle from Before:
And the After :
With the new antique table acting as a night stand in between the beds, I moved the small dresser that was my old nightstand over next to the closet so there was still some storage drawers in the space. I brought in one of my favorite pieces of artwork from Copper Corners (you might remember seeing it in our previous house), to help tie in some of the navy blue from the bedding, and other navy blue accents I used throughout the room. I scooped up the small wicker lamp at HomeGoods in the clearance section for $12 to finish off this little dresser vignette.
