Hi Friend!
The day is finally here. I am sharing our fireplace reveal. It honestly feels so surreal when I pause for a moment and look back at all the months I spent dreaming about our fireplace makeover being complete! After living with the brick for 2 years, it was time to pull the trigger, and we began our fireplace makeover. I would like to say this is the makeover reveal we have all been waiting for, because for some of you, you have been just as invested following along from the start. After many months, and lots of time and sweat put into this makeover, the reveal is finally here!
I’m so excited to share our fireplace makeover reveal with you!
Just in case you don’t remember what our fireplace looked like before, here is a photo from when we first moved in.
And now, what it looks like completed ~
I included links to the blog posts below where I shared what our fireplace makeover plan was. All of the options and ideas we thought through to come to this final look, and of course the demo process, and materials we decided to go with.
Needless to say we are thrilled with the After, and how it now feels like it goes with the rest of our home.
Here is another view of the Before & After.
We replaced the brick on the floor with a warm gray outdoor tile from Daltile called Delegate. The stone we used on the fireplace walls is called Stoneyard and is from Boston Blend, and is a mix of warm grays and tans. I hand picked each one to get just the right color and shade I was after, leaving out most of the brown stones that come with this choice.
The artwork is a print I found on Etsy – HERE, of an antique ship, I had printed, and then found the frame at Hobby Lobby. I wanted it to feel antique, without the high cost that most antique paintings come with.
We have been enjoying the new look of our fireplace so much, I haven’t really felt much of a need to decorate it. So I kept things simple, and brought out a few antique treasures to place on either side of the artwork.
I found the sconces on Amazon, HERE, and have just the right soft glow to them when they are on.
We are so happy with how the fireplace makeover turned out. It feels like it goes with the rest of the space now, and is so much more our aesthetic. All while still feeling original to the house.
Here is the progression from start to finish. From the day we moved in, until now ~
The final step will be to install the wood stove, which will be happening this fall. I love how the birch logs fill the opening, but they are just temporarily filling the space. I shared in Part 1 why we came to the decision of installing a wood stove for heat, instead of making it a real working fireplace. Ultimately it comes down to the size of our fireplace, and how large the fireplace opening is, a wood stove is a more effective way to add heat, and ambiance. Which make our New England winters so much more tolerable.

I have been waiting for the reveal and am not disappointed!!! Just perfect…living in Western
Massachusetts we have had our wood stove for 46 years and have loved it from day one.
Your fireplace looks gorgeous.

Thank you Lynn!! I know you completely understand what I’m talking about with how amazing wood stoves are, and the warmth they provide π

I love brick but this is so perfect with the rest of your house, great job. We too had to put in a woodstove due to the condition of our chimney. We have never looked back the stove provides so much more functional heat. I have completely gotten used to staring at the fire through the window (when it is clean lol).
Bre says
Thank you Terry π I am so looking forward to curling up by the wood stove and the amazing heat they put off π

As always, Bre, perfection! Have you decided what brand of woodstove you will put in? I love the soapstone stoves as they produce a gentle type of heat.
Bre says
Thank you Mary!! I love the soapstone stoves too, but I was afraid their more muted color might blend in too much with the color of the stone we chose, so we are going with a matte black, to tie in with the sconces. We had a Yotul in our previous house, and I loved the way it burned, so we are going with a Jotul again, just a larger size π I’ll be sure to share updated photos once it’s installed π

Wow, what a transformation!
Itβs so beautiful! π

I understand the need for the insert but it would break my heart not to leave it as is with big logs crackling away!
Bre says
Trust me I am right there with you!! I just wish it wouldn’t be so much work on the inside of the chimney to make it a real working fireplace π Thankfully the wood stove we are going with has a nice big glass door in the front, that can be left open as well π
