Winter Hanging Basket

Hi Friends!

Today I’m sharing an easy DIY that you can decorate with all winter long. This winter hanging basket is easy to make, requires minimal foliage, and the best part is you can leave it up after Christmas. I love making floral arrangements and wreaths, but sometimes it’s fun to switch things up. I’m teaming up with thirteen blogging friends today who are all sharing different winter wreaths you can make!

Let’s get started ~

To make this winter hanging basket I used –

  • Hanging Basket – Amazon, found HERE
  • Dry Floral Foam
  • 1 flocked winter branch
  • 1-3 faux cedar branches
  • 1 faux white berry stem, cut into clusters
  • 1 faux magnolia stem, cut into three pieces
  • 1 pinecone floral pic

I began by placing my floral foam in the bottom of my hanging basket first. I began by placing my flocked winter pick in first on the lefthand side (shown in the photo above). Then I placed my largest faux cedar branch next to my flocked branch, and wove some of the branches around each other, so they looked layered in the basket together (shown in the photo below).

I cut my one faux magnolia stem (old from Target), into three sections and placed them in the hanging basket next (shown above). I placed my longest magnolia stem in the back on the right hand side to add a little bit of an asymmetrical look to it. Then I filled in around the magnolia leaves with white berry clusters, I had clipped from one faux stem.

I finished off the front with a pinecone floral pick (shown below) that also had some winter greens on it, and filled in any bare spots were the floral foam was still showing with the last few pieces of cedar I had.

My favorite thing about making this hanging basket is I could hang it on my front door, or add it to the hooks in our mudroom, or use it as an accent piece hung with some ribbon over a mirror or artwork throughout our home.

I love a pretty hanging basket as an alternative to a wreath, and yours is so gorgeous Bre! Sometimes less is more, and the simplicity of this is truly stunning. Perfect for the holidays, and I like that you could leave it out all winter long. Pinned!
