Hi Friend!
I am so excited to share this years Christmas Mantel with you, because this is the first year I get to decorate our newly renovated fireplace for the holidays. If you are new here, earlier this year we gave our brick fireplace a makeover. It was quite the extensive process, and we thought through every aspect of what this makeover would look like. You can read all about it HERE, but today is the day I have been waiting for ever since we finished our fireplace makeover. I brought my favorite garland out of storage, and I couldn’t wait to hang it back up.
Come and see this years Mantel decorated for Christmas ~
I love the look of an asymmetrical garland. It feels like a fresh take on the traditional way you would place garland on a fireplace mantel. Both are beautiful options, so I go with the one I’m more in the mood for. To me it feels a little bit unexpected, and that’s what I love. I jump at the chance to break any so-called design rules out there!
I used two strands of the Hemlock Garland from Purple Rose Home, found HERE. I started by placing my first strand along the front of the middle of the fireplace mantel. I used tiny nails to keep my garland in place, because command strips don’t stick to the raw wood of our mantel beam, and tiny nails holes just blend in with the other imperfections on the beam. I held up the second garland strand and determined how long I wanted it to drape down on the left side. Once the length was where I wanted it, I draped it over the left corner of the other garland and tucked the branches around each other so you can’t see where one garland strand ends and the other begins.
I love adding in ribbon to embellish my garlands and greenery for the holidays, and the garland on our mantle is a great spot to add in some ribbon. I used three different types of ribbon to create this look. A wide satin ribbon in ivory, a medium sized cotton ribbon with a stripe, and a skinny velvet ribbon. Each ribbon is a different width and texture that helps add layers and interest.
I finished off this corner with some hanging bells for a little added accent. You can find the hanging bells in my Amazon Storefront Christmas folder – HERE.
For above the mantle, I hung an antique metal tray for a focal point. I added a few sprigs of faux greenery (found HERE) and ribbons to decorate it for Christmas. To the left I added a grouping of brass candle sticks, and on the right I added a few mini trees.
The two tiny houses in the middle are from the Target value spot last year, and I love how the faux wood roof color coordinates with the antique metal tray and the brown bottle brush tree.
With the garland hung asymmetrically, it leaves me room on the right side of the mantel to hang our stockings, and this year I’m choosing to wait until Christmas eve to hang them.
