Hello Friends!! Today I’m sharing how I styled my open shelves in our kitchen for spring! They are one of my favorite DIY’s we did to our kitchen over 5 years ago, and my favorite area to decorate for Christmas every year. I’ve shared them HERE and HERE, decorated for the holidays, and recently I took all the boards down and refinished them – shown HERE. I love them all year long, but somehow only seem to share them around the holidays, so today I’ve added a few simple touches – just perfect for spring.
One fact you might not know about our house is, since it was built in 1846, there is no pantry. Like hardly any storage at all, because well, back then people just didn’t have that many things, or the need to store them. So instead of keeping all my serving pieces in boxes in the basement, I use these shelves and my plate rack wall to store / display my prettier things, and keep them at arms reach when we are entertaining.
One of the ways I add decor to our kitchen without taking up valuable countertop space is by utilizing our open shelves for not only storage, but to display my nicer serving pieces to act as decor.
I recently shared in my stories on IG, these sweet little concrete pots I picked up in the Target value center. They were $3 each, and I love the contrast they bring in with the texture of the rough concrete next to the smooth white plates.
I keep the pieces I use most often the bottom shelf, and the pieces I use least on the top shelf. I filled glass canisters with oatmeal, flour and rice, and used metal scoops found at HomeGoods to give them an old convenience store feel. I also don’t just display cake stands, I use them as stands to corral other smaller items too.
I recently picked up this cute little concrete planter on a trip to Marshall’s. It’s the perfect size for a shelf, and love that it gives me a chance to add in a fresh pop of green too!
On the middle shelf I anchor the whole space with a large silver serving platter hung in the center, and then display the rest of my items in a vignette around it. Stacked white plates are easy to grab when setting the table.
