Hello Friends!! I’m so glad you have been loving my fall decor posts this year so far. I have been in full “spring cleaning” mode if you will, putting away summer decor, wiping down surfaces and buying mini white pumpkins every time I go to the grocery store, lol! Since I am in full fall decorating mode, I wanted to share an easy decor hack to help you with your fall decorating, and there is a giveaway too, so you can spruce up your home for fall too! Come check it out ~
Earlier this week, I shared this gorgeous fall tablescape from our outdoor patio area! I used real and FAUX pumpkins to fill the middle with a row of cascading pumpkins, all on top of a beautiful scarf! Yes you read that correctly – a SCARF!
When I was coming up with ideas on what how I wanted to create this tablescape, I kept telling my husband – I just need something plaid. A tablecloth or napkins, or even a throw blanket – I have been known to use those in the past.
The problem was, I couldn’t find any plaid napkins, and didn’t really want to spend money on a tablecloth I would only use once every year at best. Looking for a new throw blanket seemed like the best investment because I could use it on my table, and then use it in our living room as well – practical.
But all the plaid blankets I liked were pricey, and I just wasn’t convinced enough to pull the trigger.
Then I had my “ah-ha” moment! What if I used a scarf?! Knowing that some scarves when spread out, are the size of a small blanket. So that is just what I did!
Fall Decorating Hack #1 – Use a Scarf as a table runner.
I played around with the scarf placement a bit, deciding if I wanted to bunch it up running down the center, using it as a table runner, or laying it out flat as a tablecloth – which is what I ended up going with.
It added just the right amount of color and fall feel I was hoping for, and I was able to get it for under $10, which my wallet appreciated as well. So then it got me thinking, where else could I decorate with this scarf for fall?
Fall Decorating Hack #2 – Use a Scarf over a coffee table.
As I began to transition our decor in our living room for fall, I started playing around with the idea of incorporating the scarf in other areas.
Below you can see what our coffee table looked like styled for summer ~
And now styled for fall ~
I began by folding the scarf in thirds, and draping it over our coffee table. I knew I would be centering my tray on the coffee table, so to create more of a layered look, I placed the scarf off to one side. Then I grabbed one of my darker, woven baskets to replace the lighter one I had for the summer months.
I grabbed some coffee table books, a glass pumpkin candle to place on top, and used some faux fall floral stems tucked into a vase, to finish off my coffee table styling for fall.
I love how using the scarf on the coffee table looks and feels like a throw blanket without taking up all the space a throw blanket typically would. It instantly transforms my coffee table over for fall, and I love the layered look it adds!
While I was tinkering in our living room, I also wondered how it would look on our sofa, in lieu of a throw blanket. Would it be too small, given it’s not the same length as a throw blanket, but I soon found out it worked perfectly!
Fall Decorating Hack #3 – Use a Scarf as a throw blanket.
The scarf is so cozy and soft, since it’s technically one you would wear, so having it draped over our couch, just gave our living room that extra cozy feel, not to mention a super soft place to curl up now.
I love how versatile this scarf is (found HERE), and am seriously going to think twice before I ever buy a plaid tablecloth again.
It’s such a great way to incorporate that fall look, without having to go out and buy all new things, which let’s face it, sometimes we feel like we have to in order to transition our homes over for each new season.
I also styled it two ways below ~ Folded neatly or draped over the corner – you choose which look you like best ๐

I love the scarf ideas! I’ve been struggling to find a table runner I like for fall, so this might be the perfect remedy! My question is, what would be your main tips for minimizing clutter in small homes and keeping it simple? Thanks!
Christine says
Dear Bre – I love your blog and am willing to put up with the ads to read it. But how did an ad from Conservative Buzz, with Trumpโs face asking if he should be reelected end up on your beautiful blog? I visit Rooms for Rent to escape the political mayhem.
Bre says
Hi Christine, Unfortunately, the ads are customized to your web browsers history. It has nothing to do with what I choose or select. Say for instance you were browsing Target for a new swimsuit, and then later came to my blog to read something, the ads would then be showing all the recent sales at Target, and highlighting swimwewar. I have no control over what the exact ads show, so each person sees different ads based on what they are searching on their computers. It’s a tricky game they play, one that always leaves me wondering who is monitoring my web browser activity :/ I however keep all of the blog content I write politics free ๐

I love fall. In my area, fall is actually the warmest part of the year. Today was 80+. I’m sitting on the deck enjoying the sunset. it’s full of beautiful fall colors!
Bre says
Sounds beautiful!!
Karen U says
Love those scarves! I often do this as well! Whenever my daughter can’t find one of her scarves, she usually has a good idea where to find it! She also takes the african indigo cloths that were some of my favorite funds to wear as scarves as well! I do love a versatile piece!
I’ve already added these ti my amazon cart!
Just wondering, in an open concept livingroom and dining room, should the rugs in each area be required to match or at least coordinate?
Bre says
I don’t think they have to match, I just make sure when I’m mixing patterns and colors that they don’t clash. I like my spaces to flow cohesively with one another ๐
Jen says
I love it and I even have a scarf that would be perfect!
