Hello Friends!!
Are you ready for Thanksgiving?! I can’t believe it’s tomorrow!! My kids are home from school, as today kicks off their Thanksgiving break, and we are spending the day in the kitchen prepping and getting a head start on some of the recipes we have planned for tomorrow. There is definitely an excitement in the air as we get ready to host this years Thanksgiving in our new home! It’s the first holiday we celebrate in our new home, and honestly it has me full of emotions as I think about how blessed we are, and how grateful I am to be hosting this holiday in our new home. Ok, enough with the waterworks … I’m also super excited today, because I am joining some blogging friends, and sharing the first bit of our Christmas decor with all of you. I’m even sharing a quick glimpse of our new Christmas tree!
Come and see ~
So in case you are stopping by from one of the other blogs in todays tour – welcome! – and if this is your first time here, or you haven’t visited in awhile – we moved! Earlier this year, our family moved across town into our forever home, and we feel so blessed to be here, but I figured I would let you know in case things didn’t look familiar.
Ok first things first! For the last 10 years, I had been decorating our previous home that did not have a traditional mantel! So I always designated the buffet in our dining room as my “mantel”, and wouldn’t you figure that I actually have a traditional fireplace mantel in our new house (a pretty BIG one), but when I was thinking about decorating a mantel for this blog tour, the first place that came to mind was the console table in our living room! Ha! So I guess even if you do have a traditional mantel there are still other surfaces that you can decorate like you would a fireplace mantel.
And since this year I’m all about simplicity, I’m sharing how I decorated our console table as my holiday mantel, in case perhaps you don’t have a traditional mantel either ๐
I shared about our Console Table HERE, it’s one we built out of some reclaimed barnwood to help will in this space off to the side of our living room. When I first decorated this area, I hung a grouping of 4 frames to create a small grid gallery wall. But I couldn’t resist switching things up for Christmas.
I started by hanging this Christmas sign from Ann Marie and Co. centered above the console table. It creates the perfect backdrop and focal point for my simple mantel decor ๐
Then I placed this amazing faux garland – 2 strands – along the entire console table. I love how quickly greenery can transform a space, making it feel like the season you are in. I feel like pumpkins does this trick in the fall, just like winter greens do the trick this time of year.
This garland is from Purple Rose Home, and was one of the first to sell out FAST – ugh! But they do have some other ones that are pretty amazing, and I included a few of my favorites in this blog post sharing all about My Favorite Winter Greens.
Then I scattered throughout the garland, this assortment of bottle brush trees I bought earlier this season from Magnolia. I had my eye on them last year, and they sold out so fast everywhere I wasn’t able to get any – kind of like the garland situation this year :/ So you better believe once Magnolia launched this years holiday collection, I grabbed a few ๐
I got a mix of their White + Gold bottle brush trees ranging in sizes from their XSmall all the way up to the Large, found HERE.
I just love how simple yet festive this feels. I kept debating on adding in some twinkle lights, or something sparkly, but every time I did it just felt too fussy to me this year. I was craving simple, so simple I kept it. I think that’s an important thing to remember when decorating this holiday season. Following inspiration is great, but make sure to listen to your true self when it comes to deciding on what decor to add and how much ๐
I mentioned in the beginning of the post that we got a new Christmas tree this year! Since the rooms in our new house have a bit more space to spread things out, and we have a little bit more ceiling height, I felt like the tree we’ve used the last couple years would feel a bit dwarfed in our new living room as our main tree. Our previous living room just didn’t offer us the space to do a full tree, so I always had to go with something that was on the slender side.
I had been comparing so many faux trees, and finally decided on this 7.5′ from Amazon. Since our previous tree was from Amazon too, I figured I would try it again, and was so impressed with the fullness and realistic look of the branches. Of course this week it’s at an even better price than what I purchased mine for – almost $100 less, but I’m still so happy I got it when I did, I wasn’t sure if the price would go any lower or it would be available. My daughter and I decorated it the other night, and she looks so pretty with all the ornaments on, I can’t wait to show you!
