Hi Friends!
If you’ve been here awhile, you might remember that this corner of our kitchen used to be an unused desk area. Last year we transformed it to make room for the antique pine cupboard I scored on FB Marketplace—one of my favorite finds to date. I never got to decorate it for Christmas, so this season I couldn’t wait to add a few of my favorite festive pieces.
Today I’m sharing how I decorated our vintage cupboard for Christmas, along with easy tips you can use to style your own hutch, cabinet, or open shelving for the holidays.

The Inspiration for This Year’s Christmas Hutch
I kept things soft and natural—letting the warm wood of the cupboard shine.
This year’s inspiration came from utilizing some of my all-time favorite Christmas decorations:
- Neutral bottlebrush trees
- White ceramic houses
- Layered white dishes
- Vintage-inspired glass ornaments
- A peaceful winter cottage painting, which adds a nostalgic touch
The result is a cozy, collected look that blends seamlessly with the rest of our kitchen.

Layer in Bottlebrush Trees for Instant Christmas Charm
Bottlebrush trees are one of my go-to seasonal decorations because they’re inexpensive, classic, and instantly festive.

In the cupboard, I used:
- Tall cream trees to frame dishes and artwork
- Small tabletop trees to soften corners and fill in shelves
Their soft texture plays beautifully against the wood grain of the cupboard and the glossy finish of the ceramic pieces.

Create a Mini Winter Village With Ceramic Houses
I’ve collected these sweet white ceramic houses over the years. They add such a warm glow when lit at night. I love how they create a quiet winter village scene when tucked between dishes and greenery.

To make the shelves feel balanced, I mixed:
- Try creating smaller groupings of houses, or display a single house on a plate or cake stand.
- Bottlebrush trees in varying sizes
- A few simple ornaments for sparkle
This combination feels simple yet festive without overwhelming the cupboard.
Add in Holiday or Winter Inspired Artwork
I swapped out my fruit painting (with summery hues) for a framed winter landscape painting. The soft blues and snow-covered farmhouse scene anchor the entire display and add a cozy, nostalgic feel.

Holiday (or winter-inspired) artwork works beautifully in a hutch because it:
- Adds height
- Creates a focal point
- Brings in character and story
If you don’t have artwork, try a framed recipe card, an old photograph, or a thrifted winter print.

Mix in Greens for Soft, Natural Texture
Even in a mostly neutral display, a touch of greenery brings everything to life. I tucked a small faux branch next to the juicer and added a tiny wreath to the cupboard’s hardware. These subtle pops of green make the whole piece feel festive without leaning too heavily into red and green.

Finish With Simple Sparkle
A few glass ornaments—nothing loud or overly shiny—give just the right amount of Christmas sparkle. The soft gold tones tie in with the warm wood and create a gentle glow when the cupboard catches afternoon light.

Making it Cozy, Collected, and Meaningful!
This vintage cupboard has become one of my favorite spots to start off my decorating for the holiday season. It’s amazing how just a handful of pieces—most of them simple and neutral—can create such a warm, welcoming moment in our kitchen.
Every time I walk by, it reminds me that decorating for Christmas doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Sometimes the most meaningful displays come from layering things you already love with just a few seasonal touches.
