Spring Entryway Refresh

Hi Friends!!

Nothing feels better than shaking off the dust of winter by refreshing our spaces for spring and getting ready for the warmer months ahead. After a long season of boots, salt, and heavy layers, our entryways and mudrooms often take the brunt of it all.

I spent some time cleaning out our mudroom area the other day—getting rid of all our heavier winter items, sweeping up all the sand and salt that gets tracked in, and putting away our winter gear. Even just a couple of hours made the space feel lighter, brighter, and ready for a new season.

If your entryway is ready for a reset too, here are a few simple ways to refresh it for spring.

1. Clear Out Winter Clutter

Start by removing anything that feels heavy or no longer needed. Winter coats, snow boots, hats, gloves, and scarves tend to pile up quickly.

Store away what you won’t need for a few months and take a moment to declutter anything worn out or no longer used. Creating space is the first step toward making your entry feel fresh again.

2. Give Everything a Good Clean

After months of foot traffic, your mudroom deserves a deep clean.

  • Sweep or vacuum thoroughly (especially corners where salt collects)
  • Mop floors to remove residue from snow and sand
  • Wipe down baseboards and trim
  • Clean your front door—inside and out

These small details make a big difference and instantly brighten the space.

3. Swap Out Your Welcome Mat

Your welcome mat is one of the first things guests see—and one of the hardest working pieces in your home.

Consider replacing your winter mat with something lighter and more seasonal. A fresh coir mat or a softer neutral option can instantly signal the shift into spring.

4. Lighten Up Your Textiles

Just like the rest of your home, your entryway benefits from softer, lighter textures this time of year.

Swap out darker or heavier pillows and fabrics for:

  • Linen or cotton pillow covers
  • Subtle stripes or soft neutrals
  • Light, breathable materials

Even a small change like this can make your mudroom feel more inviting.

5. Bring in a Touch of Greenery

One of the easiest ways to breathe life into your entryway is by adding greenery.

In our mudroom, I hung a simple woven basket and filled it with faux spring branches for an effortless seasonal update. It adds just enough texture and life without overwhelming the space.

You could also try:

  • A small potted plant
  • Fresh cut branches
  • A vase of seasonal stems

6. Refresh Your Door Decor

Swapping out your winter wreath is one of the quickest ways to welcome spring.

Instead of heavier evergreens or winter tones, opt for:

  • A light spring wreath
  • Greenery with soft florals
  • Or even a hanging basket like the one shown here

It’s a simple change that sets the tone before you even walk inside.

7. Create a Functional Drop Zone

As seasons change, so do the items we reach for daily.

Take a moment to reset your entryway so it works for spring routines:

  • A basket for shoes or gardening clogs
  • Hooks cleared and ready for lighter jackets
  • A place to drop sunglasses or keys

Keeping things functional ensures your refreshed space stays tidy.

A Fresh Start for a New Season

Refreshing your entryway doesn’t have to be complicated. A little cleaning, a bit of editing, and a few seasonal swaps can completely transform how the space feels.

There’s something so satisfying about walking into a home that reflects the season—lighter, brighter, and full of possibility.

And after a long winter, that fresh start feels especially good.
