When we first got married, we inherited our bed from a family member who bought a queen for her guest room, it hardly got used, and then she down-sized and had no need for the bed. Perfect timing for us, because we were just starting out, and I know you’ve heard this song and dance before, and “we ain’t got no money”. So we were thrilled we didn’t have to go out and buy a bed. Well fast forward 10 years later, and this bed is now 15 or so years old, neither of us were sleeping good, or through the night for that matter. After hearing so many commercials on how many hours are spent on your mattress, we were determined to remedy this sleepless night issue. When we got our brand new king bed, it came with a set of 1200 count Egyptian cotton sheets.
Of course all I can think of, was some tv show or movie, where they were raving about these sheets made from Egyptian cotton, so I got all excited. They were fine to start out with, honestly I didn’t really notice any difference from 500 thread count sheets I had in the past, but hey they were Egyptian Cotton, so that had to mean something right?! For us it meant that after the 3rd or so wash, they shrunk, and the fitted sheet would barely fit around all four corners of our mattress unless you were an olympic gymnast and could stretch magically to every corner and pull them down at the same time, YEAH not so much. Then about 1 month and 1/2 in I started noticing something scratching my legs every time I went to fall asleep. They pilled. And not just Oh an occasional one here or there. The entire sheet set pilled so bad you felt like you were sleeping on sand. If this is Egyptian cotton, I want nothing to do with it. 
Well maybe that was just our experience, but I’ve had bad luck with sheets in the past. Of course I hear my mothers words ringing in my head every time I look at a sheet set “You get what you pay for”, but when HomeGoods and Marshalls offer you great deals it’s hard to pass them up?! Can I get an AMEN!!! I’ve found out that over the years, it can become a bit of a guessing game. Some of the sheet sets sold there are wonderful, you never want to get of bed wonderful, and some not so much. I was tired of the guessing game, and so was my wallet. I often tell my clients not to buy something unless they are 100% sure of it, because why waste money on 10 maybes that were cheaper to start out, but in the long run it would have just been less expensive to buy the one thing you were really sure of.

Baby’s bottom is one I’d like to try. We’re getting a new king bed soon, so I’m looking for new sheets. I wish buying sheets wasn’t such a crapshoot. I’ve bought sheets from Pottery Barn and been disappointed too. I found some great sheets from Ballard’s and ordered another set only to be disappointed in the second set. I thought it was just me. Glad to know I’m not alone. 😉

I just bot a new bed and of course sheets since ours were getting holes in it but now I’m a little concerned cause they’re 1800 count Egyptian cotton!! I guess we’ll try them and see!! But I would love to have a set of second skin sheets, they sound awesome!
Interestingly, I’ve got new sheets on my Christmas list this year. Since we moved, I only have one nice sheet set for our bed. Normally something like this would never make it to my Christmas list, but we really need another set. And you’re right about some of those sheets. I found, the higher the thread count, the worse they held up. My best sheets have always been in the 200-300 range. I would go with either Second Skin or Eternally Drapeful.
I am super interested in trying these sheets. Thanks for the post about them. My daughter has severe night sweats at the age of 20 because she has a form of dysautonomia that causes her autonomic (automatic) nervous system to not work correctly. The Easy Breezy and No Sweat would be great to try!

Ah!!! We need new sheets in a bad way! I dread standing in the sheets department, staring at mind boggling thread counts wondering what they really mean, feeling endless samples trying to figure out if the sheets will stay soft or begin to rip after a few washes. So glad you are happy with your sheets. I have been searching for the right sheets for years. I realized a while back that sheets are very different from what we used to buy. Those sheets were a nice crisp fabric that were always comfortable. The did not pill and they lasted for years. I still have some sheets in full-size that we received as wedding gifts 35+ years ago. I love to use them as a light cover for naps. Unfortunately, we have a queen and a king size bed. They were percale cotton. I have tried sheets that were labeled “percale” but they were not the same. Would it be possible for you to give us an update in a few months?

Oh Bre, I’m with you 100%! We stayed at a B&B this past summer and loved the feel of their sheets. They could only be purchased through a commercial company and I splurged BIG TIME for them…but after just a few washes, they pilled and lost their shape. I couldn’t believe it. Never again.
