The Mom Cave

A new space for the new year! I am so excited to share how we transformed this space into a cozy retreat! Ever since I was a little girl I have loved being in my bedroom. It was my space to think, and play, create, and dream big. I always felt refreshed after having some alone time in my room when I was a kid, and still feel that way! In our master we have a tiny room attached that you walk through to get to the master bathroom. It’s where you’ve seen my home office set up before, and I always envisioned creating a cozy retreat in that space. A mom cave if you will, and I’m so excited to share it with you today!

Since it is apart of our master bedroom, I wanted to create a space that not only I could enjoy, but the hubby could also. I kept to a neutral palette, but added a few feminine touches. My husband always jokes that he would not own a single throw pillow if it weren’t for me!

Cozy was the main focus. Since I was working with all neutrals, texture is key. Even though I wanted to space to feel clean and refreshing, I wanted it to feel warm and inviting as well. Not sterile, which is usually the bad rep that white rooms get.

I wanted a table big enough that I could work at, and also not be afraid to hold a couple stacks of books. And of course there had to be a space to put a cup coffee down. I will share with you soon how I transformed this little pedestal table from Wayfair to have just the weathered look I was hoping for.

Since we are smack dab in the middle of winter, paper whites and some mercury glass trees create a simple winter vignette, without feeling too christmas-y.

These gorgeous linen chairs are from Joss & Main, and are the perfect blend between relaxed and refined. I think these are the first fully upholstered pieces of furniture I have. We all know how much I love slipcovers, right?! But these oatmeal colored linen chairs will hide everyday dirt better than stark white, and honestly the nailhead trim had me at hello!

The fabric is wipeable, and since we are out of slippy cup age, I thought it was time to take the chance. I loved the detail the nailhead trim added. It’s subtle because they are tiny nails, and it reminded me of more of a deconstructed feel, rather than the more formal feel you get with traditional sized nailhead.

I also loved the lower arms. I think that helps make the chairs look more relaxed even though they have a subtle wingback style.

I loved this little whimsical tree pillow from Wayfair. Because the rest of the space is neutral, it felt more wintery to me rather than christmas. I love decor that can help get you from christmas to spring!

The legs on the chair have a weather finish to them as well, which helps promote their relaxed vibe. They have a restoration hardware weathered oak look for a fraction of the price.

Another way I added texture to space was adding wood planks to the wall. It makes the entire room feel like a cozy cottage, and honestly I love texture so much, the walls don’t feel like they are begging for artwork.

The wood planks are from Stikwood, and they are actually peel and stick planks. I chose their Hamptons finish  for a subtle beachy feel, and it still kept the room light and airy. You can watch videos on their website of how they make this amazing product, and it was so easy to install. Honestly it was easier than painting, and required minimal tools vs. installing traditional shiplap.
