With all the refreshing the new year brings us, I can’t help but take a look around my home with a refreshed perspective. Wanting to start off the new year with a freshly cleaned space, and decluttered surfaces, I can’t help but analyze over our homes decor, and reflect on the story it tells. Looking over every piece of furniture and knick knack, I ask myself the question ” Does my home tell our story?”, and the answer is YES!
Each year I like to start things off by writing down some goals I have for the new year. I’ll be sharing more on how I do this personally, but I also set goals for the blog, and projects I want to do around our home. My husband and I joke that the winter is our “Project Season”, but typically it’s because we are cooped up inside due to impending snow. It’s fun to look back on goals I’ve set in past years. We don’t always get to every house goal we have for that year, but that’s ok, they are just goals, so we can shoot again for them the next year too. So here are my goals for 2019 for around our home.
HAPPY New Year friends!! Honestly, my mind is still just in shock that the holidays have come and gone. I find myself hopeful with what the new year will bring, but also asking myself the question “Where has the year gone?”. I love taking a moment to pause and look back over the past year, as we are about to embark on a new one, because when I find myself asking that question, I’m reminded of just how much was accomplished this past year. I’m ready to jump into the new year after I’ve taken one last look back. 2018 was quite a year, filled with so many wonderful things, so lets take a look at the year in review.
I can’t believe we are only 2 sleeps away from it being Christmas. Our kids can hardly contain their excitement as we get closer and closer to Christmas day. As we prepare to celebrate over the next few days, with family and friends, I wanted to take a moment to wish each one of you a Merry Christmas also.
As I get ready to start pulling out pieces to set the table for our own Christmas Eve dinner, I get so excited with the endless possibilities of what to create. Christmas is less than a week away, and I can hardly believe it! I really haven’t even begun to wrap my head around the fact, that right behind it is a new year, with all the new possibilities it will bring. I have to say though, I think my favorite part about having our Christmas decor up, is the glow of the white lights at night. That is always the part I miss the most when it comes time to take down the decorations. Hello Friends!!! I can’t believe Christmas is in one week! ONE WEEK! My husband and I went out last night to get the last of the stocking stuffers that we need, and other than one more Amazon order to make – we are done! And it feels so good! I can’t believe with Christmas only a week away, we will be ringing in the New Year before you know it! I have reached the age where I’d much rather stay in and party than go out. Sometimes I make it to midnight, lol, but we love having some friends over and ringing the New Year in together. We recently converted this second-hand cabinet into a wet bar, just in time to help us ring in the New Year. Come and take a look!
Over the past couple of years I have created different Advent calendars at christmas time to celebrate the holiday season. I remember when my kids were toddlers feeling the pressure to do everything the Christmas season had to offer. Make christmas cookies, go caroling, drive around and look at christmas lights. Make sure we watch ALL the christmas movies, get matching christmas pajamas, celebrate advent, attend our churches christmas eve service in our new holiday outfits, and the list goes on and on. What I learned over the years, is what sticks with our kids is not so much the “doing” of all the things, but celebrating the little things. And to me that’s what Advent is all about!
