Today I’m finally getting around to sharing the other half of the room our washer and dryer are in. I’ll be honest when we first looked at this house, this room perplexed me. It’s a small room to being with, and has an angled wall that used to drive me bonkers when we first moved in. It’s funny how something things start to fade away and blend in with the rest of the space. This room has functioned as a few things since we lived here. A playroom, a bedroom, a throw all room, a pop-up guest room, and now my office. I’ll admit it’s been my office for just about 2 years, but it’s hardly ever clean. When you are creating things, it’s so hard to keep things clean, but that’s why I love this room. It’s a space for any of the projects I’m working on to go, and I can just shut the door. However now, it’s turned into quite the creative retreat, so I may be keeping that door open a bit more! With some help from my friends at Minted, I was able to turn this home office space into a place I where I love to create. It inspires me, and I think that’s what helps the creative juices flow the most, and I can’t wait to share it with you!
I had a Dream …
It’s funny, looking back, how clearly I can remember always wanting to be a mom. I can remember being asked as a young girl, and early teenager what I wanted to do when I grew up, and my answer was simple, “be a mom”. It wasn’t until I was in high school that that answer was no longer the only answer people would accept. I would get responses like “yes you can be a mom, but what else do you want to do?” or “Of course you will be a mom, but what do you want to do for a career”. Even though their question changed, my answer still stayed the same. To the point that when it came time to start thinking about college, I boldly told my parents I didn’t need to go to college because I was going to get married and be a mom. This was without a potential husband on the scene as well. I was confident in it. I was drawn to it, and something inside me felt peace about it, contentment, almost like it settled me. Yes I had always secretly wanted to become an interior designer, but at the time going to school for that was out of reach, and I doubted myself very much. Especially seeing how I didn’t have my own home or money to decorate with.
Summer Living Room Decor
Hi friends! I hope you have been enjoying summer. It feels like such a fleeting season for us here in New England, so I wanted to share a flew glimpse’s of our living room with you, as a way to soak up this last month of summer that we have, before fall comes and the kids head back to school! First though, thank you SO much for all your kind words regarding our Farmhouse Laundry Room Makeover. Like most of you, our laundry room isn’t really a room, but more a wall, lol. This little transformation has made this area in our home much more productive, and I think we can all agree, when it comes to doing chores, when they are more enjoying to do, they get done! In case you missed it, you can see the entire makeover HERE. I still have more to share about the rest of this room, but we have been soaking up summer with trips to the beach, time spent with friends, and just being there for my kids. As much as I love to share things here on the blog, I also recognize that time spent with my kids during these summer days won’t always be there. So this mama is soaking it in while she can 🙂 Now for a look into our summer living room.
Farmhouse Laundry Room Makeover
Hi Friends! We have been busting out some projects over here that had been put on the back burner since they weren’t necessarily pressing to get done. But it feels so good to cross some of these of my list. You know that list that my husband thinks never ends, and can’t tangibly see because it exists in my head, and I slowly add to it. Todays project was one that I actually put on the list when we bought our house. But as I said it wasn’t the most important so it got pushed down to the bottom. Well not anymore friends! Today it is officially done, and I can’t wait to show you! I teamed up with Weaber Lumber to complete this project, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the outcome! Say hello to our most recent makeover – our Farmhouse Laundry Room.
DIY Chalk Painted Cabinet
One of my favorite transformations to do is making over a piece of furniture. I love that for a fraction of the price of buying a new piece, you can make existing furniture work with a little elbow grease. That was just what was needed for the little cabinet we have in our downstairs bathroom when we gave it a makeover. The best part about this little DIY was I completed it in a day, so if you are looking for something fun to do this weekend, or coming week, this is a great project that anyone can tackle.Â
Patriotic Summer Dessert
Hello Friends! I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July!! We love to get together with family and friends and celebrate. Hosting is one of our favorite things to do, but if you have entertained before you know that sometimes coming up with all the food can be a bit daunting. Sometimes ideas or recipes come right to me, and other times I feel like I’m having a complete brain fart and don’t even know where to start. Today I’m sharing one of my favorite patriotic summer dessert recipes, that no matter what season you are in instantly makes it feel like summer. It’s a slight twist on a classic favorite and is a high demand in our house. I hope you enjoy!
Summer Porch Decorating
Hi Friends! I hope your summer is off to a great start and in full swing! Our oldest has been away at his first summer camp all week, and this mama’s heart is going through all sorts of emotions about it. I’m sure it’s been a wonderful week, but I’m dying to hug his neck and hear all about it! With the 4th of July quickly approaching, things finally feel like summer has arrived around here, so I wanted to share with you some front porch decorating I’ve done, and how I subtly add some patriotic flare!
Incorporating Rattan in your Home Decor
You’ve heard me say it before, that while I don’t typically decorate for every holiday, I decorate for the seasons. I think growing up in New England where the four seasons are a bit more prominent has trained me for this mind set when it comes to decorating our home. I want to welcome each new season, and all it has to offer, by incorporating pieces that remind me of that season throughout our home. Texture is a great way of adding warmth to a space, but incorporating seasonal textures is another great way to decorate your home seasonally. Today I’m sharing with you my favorite pieces for incorporating rattan into your home decor.
The “NAY-Sayers”
Hi friends! How are you today!! I’ve been sharing a bit from the heart lately, and well, I just can’t move on until it stops weighing so heavy. I hope that’s ok. And please know I’m not changing my blogging focus from Home Decor, but I think it’s important to share multiple aspects that happen to inspire life. Recently I’ve shared with you the importance of “Doing What You Love”. And how vital that is as a creative soul, a person, to make sure that life doesn’t stifle us to the point where we feel uninspired to do much of anything. Then I shared with you the “Nastiest 4 Letter Word” that we can all fall prey to every now and again- FEAR. It’s a dream crusher, and can cripple even the most daring risk taker. Theres another aspect of pursuing your dreams that I haven’t mentioned yet. It’s not quite as crippling as FEAR, but it can still stop us in our tracks if we aren’t careful – the “NAY-Sayers”.
