Welcome friends to our Celebrate Summer Home Tour, hosted by the talented Julie Blanner. Yesterday was Day 1, and you can catch the beginning HERE, and if you are coming over from Liz at Love Grows Wild, then welcome! I’m so glad you here! It’s funny for me to look back through past home tours, because no 2 are the same. Even though I love my neutrals and I have the same color palette for most of them, there is a different flair on each one. Even the transition from Spring to Summer, I like my home’s decor to reflect the season changing outside. If you are new here than let me give you the 30-second welcome! We live in New England, in an 1846 farmhouse that we share with our 2 kids, ages 5 and 7, and our latest addition 6 chickens! My favorite color is white, just ask my kids, and while Christmas is my favorite holiday to decorate for, I think summer suits our house best. Everything just feels right, if that doesn’t sound to cooky at all. Oh and when I’m not on here, you can find me on Instagram (@roomsforrent)!! I have a little more on that later too, but first lets get on with the tour.
I’ve had things pretty neutral and soft lately, so I decided to add a fun punch of color into our home to celebrate summer.
Summer is bright and full of fresh air, especially after those long New England winters, so I wanted the inside of our home to feel just as bright and cheery as it does outside!
These fun floral pillows from Studio Pillows were just the pop of color I was craving this year! You may remember I got my blue and white chevron pillows, seen HERE, from them. To help us celebrate summer, Karis from Studio Pillows is offering Rooms FOR Rent readers a special discount to help kick off summer! Just use code : ENJOYSUMMER10 at check out, and kick off summer with some new throw pillow covers of your choice!
Across from our sofa, we have our DIY Printers Cabinet, that really sparked a love for making our own furniture. Even though it wasn’t the first piece we built, it’s our favorite piece to date.
Our living room is open concept with the dining room, and when you are sitting on our sofa you get to view the rest of the first floor.
Our dining room table, was the first piece of furniture we ever built, and I can just tell you after wanting a farmhouse table for years, I was doing a happy dance for quite some time after we finished it! You can see the stain and paint choices I used in this post HERE.
Summer for me is really all about bringing in fresh flowers! Whether they are clipped from our yard, like the lilacs you see here, or fresh from the market (like in the living room), I can’t get enough of them!
I love making simple arrangements as well. Here a collection of vintage looking bottles from HomeGoods spread out, fills our table in the most simplest way. Just past the dining room is the kitchen.
While our kitchen wouldn’t make the cut for BEST KITCHEN EVER, lol, we have added a lot of things to this kitchen to make it our very own. Our DIY chalkboard wall, the built in plate rack, open shelves, many things that can help make a basic kitchen feel a little more special. I shared how I transformed our kitchen HERE, but the latest transformation happened over the weekend.
If you follow me on Instagram, then you may remember me mentioning how I finally decided to paint our island after seeing a recent photo from Benjamin Moore. I have mentioned a few times before that while I really love our all white kitchen, I was craving a change. So change I made!
You can see what our island looked like before, HERE, and I will share more on how I painted it soon. I still have to do the other side, but just getting these three sides done was enough for me. I painted it Graphite from Annie Sloan’s chalk paint line, because it’s just about my most favorite color out there.
I love having the windows open during summer, especially the one above the kitchen sink. That warm breeze blows through, and somehow just makes everything feel alright, no matter what kind of day I’m having.
I recently re-painted our stripes in our downstairs bathroom gray, you can see that transformation HERE.
I hope you enjoyed touring our home! Next up is Traci from Beneath My Heart, who is just as sweet in person as you would think! I can’t wait to give her a big hug at Haven again this year!

So I just love your sight? I’ve been looking for weeks for the “perfect living room”. I bought a lot of coastal decor at Homesense (Canadian version of HomeGoods???) but ultimately returned it.
A few questions…
The rug in the living room, the wicker chairs in the dining room and the crate style table in the living room… where are they from?
Thank you so much for the great site!
Bre says
Hi Alyson, Thank you so much! The rug in the living room is from Rugs Usa, and the wicker chairs in the dining room are from IKEA, and trunk coffee table was a hand-me-down 🙂 Thank you so much for stopping by, glad I could contribute to your home decor love 🙂

Love that wooden wreath! Did you make it? Would you mind sharing the source if you purchased it? Your home is lovely!
Bre says
I believe you are referring to the wooden mirror behind our sofa? It was a HomeGoods purchase a few years ago. Thanks!
Rexanne says
Please tell me about your living room furniture. Are the slip cover and sofa from the same company? I love white, but with a 2 and a half year old running around I’m thinking it’s not a good idea 🙁
Bre says
Hi Rexanne! Yes the slip cover and sofa are from the same company. You can search “slip covered sofa” from online stores, and see what they have available. Ours is from Joss & Main, and we LOVE it! I have a now 5 and 7 year old, but have had white slipcovered furniture since the day they were born. It’s the easiest to maintain, unlike that nasty microfiber, because you can take it off and throw it in your washing machine. Super easy, and it’s like getting a brand new couch every time 🙂
