So I had a completely different post scheduled for today, but you know what I just had to share what I have been crushing on lately. I love floor plans! Like guys, I really LOVE floor plans. When I was thirteen, my dad let my sisters and I each pick out our own game for the computer. While my sisters were looking at actual games, in the game section, I searched and search for the perfect software that would allow me to decorate my own house. Unfortunately at that time, they didn’t really have anything close to that available, so I took what I could find. A software program where you could create floor plans, and place furniture in those spaces. My dad looked at me with this puzzled look and asked “if I was sure about this”. And with every bit of confidence I said YES! I couldn’t wait to try it out, lol. So I guess you could say from a very early age I loved looking at floor plans. Planning out the layout for each space, and designing it with the finishing touches in my head. While we aren’t looking to build, or moving for that matter, it doesn’t matter. Sometimes I just get swept up in the mindset of dreaming and “what-ifs”, and I just love it! The possibility, the design, starting from scratch, everything. So today I’m sharing with you 10 Modern Farmhouse floor plans that I love, because well, that’s what I have been crushing on lately.

I love this one! If we were ever going to build a home, this would be at the top of my list for floor plans. I love the mix of board and batten and regular siding on the exterior, not to mention the 8′ deep porch! I love the mix of old and new and would totally incorporate rustic wood beams like they’ve shown in the model home.

This second floor plan would be a close contender in my book. One of the things I love most about these modern farmhouse floor plans, is they resemble the original farmhouse style I love so much.
Lots of windows are a must! And check out all of these windows in the main living space below! Not to mention the built ins and planked ceiling that add so much character like what you would find in old farmhouses.

#4 resembles a typically New England coastal home. Those cedar shakes make me go gah-gah, and the interior layout has a lot of charm you would see in typical old homes.

I love how much #6 resembles the old farmhouses, but with modern amenities like a workout room! No more treadmill in the bedroom, I could totally go for that!

The floor plan for #7 is a little blurry to read. But honestly I could just stare at that gorgeous curb appeal all day long. I love the classic white siding and black trim windows. A fresh take on a classic color combo.
Now #8 is very close to #1, with the exception of the wrap around porch that #1 has. The interior floor plan is similar, just laid out a little differently, but I love this variation as well.

#9 takes a fresh approach on layout. The others, even though considered “modern” with their open floor plans, are still some what traditional when it comes to layout. This one takes a whole new twist, with a GIANT 2-story great room!

Those are cool and I thinks it’s neat that your dad encouraged your creative side. I, also, LOVE the Sugarberry Farmhouses like Brittany York’s home. They are smaller but don’t waste an inch of space. Hooked on Houses blog has a wonderful post about them.

OHH I will have to check that out for sure. Because some of these are big, and I don’t think I could ever justify needing a larger foot print, not matter how much I like to decorate 🙂

I used to buy the magazines with floor plans and just pour over them! I loved looking at each one and dreaming about how it would look. I’d even “redo” parts I didn’t like. So, yes! I love floor plans. Thanks for sharing; it was so much fun to look!

Ah, a kindred spirit! I, too, at a young age , would buy floor plan books while my friends bought fashion magazines! I’d pour over them for hours, get some tracing paper, & “remodel” each one – or put furniture in them! Now, at age 70, I still prefer a house plan book to any other & find them extremely relaxing.

I love this post Bre. Like you, I could spend hours
looking at floor plans and dreaming about what it would
be like to live in some of the homes. When I was a little
girl I would sit for hours with the Montgomery Ward
catalog and plan out what furniture I would buy for
a pretend home. Looking forward to seeing what new
farmhouse dining table you select. I love your style
and blog.
