Hello Friends! I’m so excited to be joining in the Seasonal Simplicity Summer Series tour this week!! This week different bloggers are sharing their summer home tours every day, which unlike other weeks in the series where we just share one day out of the week, this week is jammed pack full of beautiful summer home decor inspiration. Today I’m sharing my summer home tour with you!
Honestly, I didn’t really change a whole lot, or add any new pieces. I shopped my house, clipped branches from my yard, and basically cleaned off every surface.
One of the things I love most about summer is the simplicity of the season. School is out (almost for us!), the days are lazy, and filled with soaking in the warm summer sun. The last thing I want is decor that is fussy and clustered that I have to dust more often. I mean who wants to clean more in the summer?! This mama sure doesn’t want too, lol.
I love this view. When you are standing in our kitchen, you can look through our dining room onto our living room. Even though the rooms are separated by the columned half walls, it still feels nice and open throughout the main floor.
One of my favorite things about the summer season in our home is being able to open all of our windows! The sun pours in, that warm breeze blows through, and honestly you don’t want to do much of anything else except sit and enjoy the breeze.
And I love these striped wicker chairs. They just speak summer to me for some reason. So instead of adding extra decor, I just choose to incorporate pieces that already have that summer vibe. Plus it is so common for my to play “musical chairs” with the literally everything in our home, so that helps freshen up a room when I’m ready to switch things out seasonally.
The dining room leads into our living room, and I love the summer months when I go outside and clip just about anything from our yard and throw it in a vase.
I think when it comes to decorating seasonally, sometimes just choosing lighter textures, and colors does the trick. Then I always go for adding greenery that you would see during that season. It’s light and easy, which reflects the season that we are in.
One little corner in our living room I don’t always show, is where our tv is. You get a sense of it when you see the view above, but often times I just skip over it when I’m taking pictures around our house.
I shared how I did my original gallery wall around it HERE. Then I decided to go for a simpler look and use all the same type of frames ( my favorite from Target!), and shared how I hung them HERE. I still think I like both styles, but I am noticing I’m more drawn to the simplistic look of having all the same frames. Even to the point where I’m thinking about the gallery wall going up our staircase, and changing that too, we’ll see.
When you are sitting on our sofa, you get the same great view back into our dining room.
I think I have just as many real plants I have faux now scattered throughout our home. Which is a great accomplishment on my part. HA HA. I shared HERE where I finally took the leap this year and started adding some real plants into our home. One of them was this beautiful fiddle leaf fig tree my friend gifted me.
After having her for about 6 weeks ( I was super skeptical in the beginning), I asked my friends on Instagram what her name should be, since I was already affectionately referring to it as a “her”. Fiona was the winner by a landslide, so Fiona is it, and she loves this spot in our dining room.
She’s in one of those cheapy black plastic pots, and then I placed it in this cute striped basket from HomeGoods. I also like that I can swap out her “skirt” i.e. the basket, whenever the mood strikes, by just removing the pot. Fresh flowers in a simple white farmhouse pitcher are one of my go-to’s. We have some queen anne’s lace that grows wild along the woods in our backyard, or I should say when my husband doesn’t accidentally weed whack them!
I love that they are imperfect. They have a delicate look to them, with their tiny white petals, but feel so effortless when thrown in a pitcher. The perfect summer statement!
On the back wall in our dining room is my dresser turned buffet, and where I showed you my simple Summer “Mantle” Vignette.
Then you walk into our kitchen. We’ve recently made some upgrades in here, including this new countertop we built.
I’ll be sharing all of the details on that very soon, along with a tutorial for how we built it, and finished the wood! Among some of the other upgrades in our kitchen is our new sliding barn door!
I shared our new Artisan Hardware barn door HERE, and right now they are actually offering all Rooms FOR Rent readers a special discount off ANY of their products when you use the code : AHROOMSFORRENT at checkout. They have some wonderful farmhouse pieces, and hardware, be sure to check them out!
