DIY Board & Batten

01/09/2012 By Bre

9 Jan
I am so pleased as I write this,
because that means our little B&B project is complete
in our master bedroom.
YES.
I love how simple this project is,
but how drastic of a change
it gives you.
If I had a small home, I would do little things like
these to the whole room, and probably
every room just to add
that much more charm
that smaller homes have ๐Ÿ™‚
I really do love how light and airy it made the room feel
as well as it give some dimension.
First we started by measuring the length of the room.
We used a 1×6 piece of pine board for the top.
Then placed 1×3 pieces of pine board for the slats.
Then caulked along the seams of all the boards.
Can I just tell you this little guy loves to help with everything.
He is such a big help.
{btw, this is his new “smile” face which = frowny face for mom ๐Ÿ™ }
Then we just painted all the wood and the wall beneath it white.
I used the same paint we used for all the trim in
the house, so that is would all match
and look the same.
And I already had it, and that = free (for this project).
Let me just remind you of what it looked like
before :
and
after:
I love how it anchors the space.
The basket in the middle I just recently grabbed
from hobby lobby for $5.
Gotta love those 50% off sales ๐Ÿ™‚
We chose to just do the wall behind our bed as an accent wall.
I also switched out our old night stand lamps,
for some bigger, heavier ones
to be more of a staple.
I grabbed them from Lowe’s, back when the
one near us was going out of business.
A side view of some of the photos on display.
The ‘love’ sign I grabbed from
Pier 1, about 4 years ago,
and the curtain is from IKEA,
and up-cycled from our
old living room.
The iron numbers I grabbed from hobby lobby a while ago, with this project in mind.
 Our anniversary date :
August 5th, 2005
Totally love the transformation of this space.
A great way to freshen things
up for the new year ๐Ÿ™‚

This looks so good. I like that you only did it behind the bed. It makes the room look bigger. Hopefully we’ll install b&b in a room someday.

Love it! My husband is currently re-doing the upstairs of our garage and we’ve been thinking of doing it in a board and batten look. I’m bookmarking your page as inspiration. Thank you!

Saw this post at TT&J. What a terrific job!! Your bedroom looks beautiful! That board and batten makes a great focal wall. What color are the walls in that room?

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.. I had to do some digging to find the paint sample ๐Ÿ™‚ AND I did… I had a few different names floating around in my head from colors I was debating when we painted.. and they are all pretty similar. The room is “Abingdon Putty” by Ben Moore, some other very similar ones I found were “Fisherman’s Net” by Olympic found at Lowe’s, Sherwin williams has one called “Poised Taupe”, and there was another one I really like called “Coffee & Cream” I believe from Lowe’s as well ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for stopping by ๐Ÿ™‚ ~Bre
