Thoughts on Turning 30, and My Grown-Up wish list!

04/23/2014 By Bre

23 Apr

Yes I said it! I’m turning 30! GAH!!! And while I have not fully digested that fact, or that it is happening next week, I figured I should begin processing it. I know for some of you this glorious transition has already happened, and I take full assurance in your words of how wonderfully fantastic being 30 can actually be. I just can’t even grasp that this is finally happening, and right around the corner too! I still feel like “Didn’t I just turn 21?” “How have my twenties already come and gone?” But they have, and being able to embrace turning 30 is made a whole lot easier by reflecting on how much I have figured out about myself.

For instance, when we were getting married {just about 10 years ago}, and doing what all young engaged couples do; registering, I wanted white plates. Solid w h i t e plates, however the soon-to-be-hubby, not so much! We got a very dark modern patterned plate set, and replaced that set 6 years later with a colonial blue and cream colored set from IKEA. Well 10 years later, this girl still wants her white plates!

I’ve picked up a few on clearance here and there, but have been eyeing this line from Target for about the last 3-4 years (which happens to be on the top of my birthday wish list). The serving pieces that are apart of this line, are the closest looking thing to vintage ironstone, and every time I walk by them I swoon.
Another thing I know full and well about myself is that 9 times out of 10 when someone asks me what I would like for a present, or going to use christmas or birthday money for. It’s something to go in the house, or decorate with. E v e r y single time! And I’m totally ok with that, because that is what I truly love. If we go broke, it’s not because I just had to have that pair of jeans, it’s “OH MY GOSH I have been looking for one of those vintage bread boards for just about f o r e v e r!”
Um yeah, it’s like that. I still have some family members that smirk or chuckle when they hear my christmas wish list is all from HomeGoods, but I on the other hand I am eager with excitement just thinking about what I would get.

Thankfully most of them caught on rather quickly, I’m not sure what gave them the hint first? It was either constantly getting new throw pillows, or the fact that every time we went to a TJ Maxx or Marshalls, I darted towards the back of the store where the Home department was without even blinking an eye at the all the clothes in front of me 🙂

Now along with buying accessories for my house, I do L.O.V.E. some stand out accessories for myself. And one of the best parts about turning 30, is I have seen my taste develop and blossom, but also remain true over the last 10+ years. I knew early on that I loved anything white, another thing that was always true was anything with brown leather in it.

And if we are pairing the two, and throwing in a little metal in the mix, all the better! I don’t tend to pick out pieces that are overly “trendy”, which some might think of as boring or predictable. I like to think of it as “classic”.  When you truly know your taste and style, then you can remain true to yourself, and have only the items you really love, and those will never go out of style!

Chloe + Isabel
These items have remained on my “Grown-Up” wish list, because well, they have grown-up price tags. Not out of reach, just something you aren’t going throw in your cart at Target because you can afford it. Which by the way there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing that, I completely approve, and for that reason alone have to limit my visits to that wonderful red store!
Pottery Barn
On my birthday last year, while I was pondering my 29th year, I came to the conclusion that I was not going to skimp or down play a birthday. And concluded that thought with, for the next 30 years I am going to have cake for breakfast on my birthday from now on. Ringing in each birthday with the proper amount of celebration it deserves. It doesn’t have to be the same cake each year, because let’s face it, I LOVE cake, and non should be excluded due to favorites. However, when I had made my decision I did have one certain cake in mind.

Um, YES! Southern Style coconut cake from the Deen Brothers. As in Paula Deens sons. I’ve made it a few times, and it is fabulous!!! I will share the recipe with you all next week as my birthday approaches, you won’t want to miss it!
And because I figured this is a big birthday, I treated myself to a present already! I Pre-ordered my copy of the Nester’s new book, due to arrive next week just a few days before my birthday, so while I’m devouring my cake, I can devour her book too!

While I know turning 30 is not as scary as some make it out to be, I’m excited to embrace this next decade of my life, and am walking confidently in the things I have already learned about myself, and looking forward to adding more to my list. Which I will share more on as the May 3rd gets closer!

Happy Early Birthday. I’m 36 now. I remember when I was turning 30 and I was so not happy about it. It just seemed THIRTY!!! Ha! Ha! But I still feel like a teenager inside. Hope you get all you wish for your birthday and more! x

Thirty is wonderful 🙂 the morning I turned 30, I wrote down all the significant things that happened to me grouped into 3 decades. .. And I bawled like a baby at the goodness of God 🙂 Jesus is waiting for you in your 30’s too…And that’s what makes it wonderful 🙂 <3

I vaguely remember 30! Ha! I was scared and didn’t take it very well…I felt like I really had to be and act responsible! Then it was fine and as it turned out, my 30’s were probably the years that I felt the youngest in my whole life.

I had to laugh about skipping the clothes in Marshall’s and heading right to the home decor! That’s me. And when hubby complains about all the things I get from UPS, I have to point out they are always things for our home. Not that I dress like a bum, I just prefer that my house looks better than me!

    XO,
    Jane

Are you kidding me right now!? 30!? Man, it seems forever ago. You’re a baby! I’m pushin’ 40, now that’s crazy!
I wanted white dishes, too. My mom found some for me two years ago at…..wait for it….the Dollar Store. I’m in love with them and they’ve held up great. No chips or anything.

Stop it! Seriously stop it! I am 32 and still feel like I just turned 24 or something 🙂 It is crazy turing the big 3-0! but then it’s not that big of a deal. hehe.

Oh, thirty is nothing. I had no problem turning 30, but 40 and then 50 whole other story and now I’m pushing 60 in less than 2 years. I love receiving things for the home too for my birthday.
