I am so excited to be teaming up with a great group of bloggers for Swap it Like it’s Hot!! This has gone around once before in blog land, and today we are teaming up for Round 2. I have a great little tutorial for you on how to make a fabric scrap bunting, but first a little back ground info.
What is Swap it Like it’s Hot? Well basically a bunch of us bloggers got together (via e-mail not in person), there was a price cap set, and we set out via thrift stores, yard sales, antique stores to find an item that was in desperate need of a makeover!
Then we mailed said item to the person we were assigned to for them to makeover the item however they creatively wanted to!
Sounds fun right?!? It was, up until I received my item in the mail :p
HA HA
ย I couldn’t wait to see what I was going to get, and of course my wheels were turning on how I would go about my DIY. Then the day came when I received my package in the mail, ripped it open with great anticipation, and I pulled out these dated cafe curtains! The best part the cheesey crocheted ribbon right before the sage green trim! Yikes!! I was clueless, so I threw it back in the package until inspiration would strike!
Well I’m happy to say inspiration finally stuck, and just in time! I love any and all of the fabric buntings I’ve seen. They are just so cute, so I decided to use whatever fabric I could salvage from these curtains to make one. I wanted to really make something I would want to keep and use in my own decor, so I knew one thing was for sure, the green had to go!
I began by cutting all the green off.
Then with the fabric left, including said cheesey crocheted ribbon, I started cutting it into equal strips.
I grabbed some twine, for a little more rustic look, but any cute ribbon would work.
I cut the long strips in fourths so all the the scraps were the same length.
I looped and knotted one end of the twine, so it would be easy to hang once I was done, and began tying the fabric onto the twine. Since I had the most of the solid white strips, I decided to tie 5 on,
and then rotate in one crocheted piece.
When I was done, I looped and knotted the other end, and had a cute little scrappy fabric bunting.
This recently painted hutch is currently in my daughters room until it goes off to it’s new home. So the scrappy fabric bunting adds the perfect shabby chic feel to this painted piece. My daughter thinks it looks like her furniture has a tutu on it, which couldn’t get any better for that ballerina loving girl.

I’m not trying to be a grammar nazi or anything, but I think you mean ‘crocheted’ instead of crotched. It has a little bit of a different meaning ๐
But what a great idea with the garland! I’m not gonna lie, I would have been stumped too. That’s a super fun swap idea, I’ve never heard of it. Very cool!
