New Rug in the Living Room

10/29/2014 By Bre

29 Oct

Not too long after I shared our Fall Home Tour with you, I finally decided on a rug for our living room. Back in the beginning of the year I got rid of our navy trellis rug, in search of something more neutral.

We temporarily had an old navy and white striped rug in here, but it was too small for the space. I always loved the natural jute rugs, but there are so many different ones to choose from.
I love the texture it adds to the space. Neutral but not washed out by the rest of the rooms light colors.
Finding the right rug size was tricky. I’ve had everything from a 4X6, then jumped up to an 8X10, then back down to a 5X7, which has helped me realize that a 5X7 or smaller, is just too small. And an 8X10 is just too big. It was basically like have wall to wall carpet. And while I love being able to see our hardwood floors, I still want the rug to be able to fit under the furniture and ground the space by covering enough space around the coffee table as well.

I did lots of searching, lots of review reading, lots of comparison, but in the end Rugs USA met all my needs. The right size, the right reviews, and with their discounts the right price. A big concern with jute rugs is how soft will it be. I knew that if I spent more, the quality would be higher, more likely softer, but everyone kept commenting on this one from Rugs USA with how soft it was, and so comfortable, and they were so right!

It’s so soft and plush, and the hubby really likes it too, which is the cherry on the top! Of course it fits right in with our fall decor, but I’m anxious to see how it looks after the holidays when the room returns to it’s normal neutral state.
Don’t forget to come back everyday next week for a different Thanksgiving Table decor idea. I also have a great group of friends joining me on Friday for the Grand Finale, where each person will share their thanksgiving table. Sounds fun, right?!?!

*Please note that this post was NOT sponsored by Rugs USA. I purchased the rug all on my own, but loved it so much, I wanted you to know!*

I don’t know if you’ll get this since it was from 2015… but… I bought this rug a few months ago. Was it filled with dirt? I put ours down without a pad to try it and after a couple of days I pulled it up and there was probably 2 pounds of dirt under it. It was so weird. Also it bunched up every time someone walked on it and the furniture moved constantly. I wondered if putting the pad under it would help that. It looks so fabulous in your house and on their website. It was totally different here. Any suggestions? Do you have a rug pad and if so what kind? THANK YOU!

I am so sorry to hear that about your rug ๐Ÿ™ Unfortunately I didn’t have that issue, but every time I have dealt with Rugs USA they have been very accommodating. I would reach out to them and tell them about the dirt issue. We had a little dust, but nothing like you described. And I did have the rug down with no pad for a while and it was fine, but once I put a rug pad down underneath it I had no issues at all ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope that helps!

So I bought this same rug because of your recommendation (Thank you!) but the tassels at the end get so messy. Have you found a solution?

I haven’t had any issues with the tassels on mine, other than being careful to not suck them up in the vacuum. I did at one point contemplate cutting them off if they bothered me, but there hasn’t been an issue yet. Maybe tucking them under rug if cutting them isn’t an option? Sorry you’re having issues with yours ๐Ÿ™‚

What size did you settle on? I like 6×9 rugs, but they are hard to find sometimes.

    Bre,
This looks gorgeous. I have been looking for an area rug and I like the natural jute too. So happy to hear this one is soft. It does give such nice texture to your room. I am going to check out Rugs USA.

I love it, Bre, especially the fringe around the border. As I was reading I kept thinking you should try Rugs USA!! You have to go outside of the box to find a variety of shapes and sizes. I really love jute, too, it has a larger weave I think, than sisal. and just feels softer to me. I might miss your trellis rug, though…I just bought one!! Posting tomorrow! ๐Ÿ™‚

Bre I am always in love with your spaces….Can I ask you about the large piece of art work in the frame above the couch? Where did you get it from and what is it called? I love the look of it. xoxoxo Christine from Little Brags
