Decorating with Flowers – Real & Faux

05/04/2016 By Bre

I am so excited to be joining my friends today for another round of 10 Minute Decorating ideas. Todays topic is all about decorating with flowers real & faux, and there are so many gorgeous ideas, make sure you catch all the links to each post at the end of mine! Not only is it fun to team up with everybody, but decorating with flowers is one of my favorite things to do. A few years ago I made the switch from rewarding myself with chocolate or candy to rewarding myself with flowers if I reached a goal that week, or was celebrating something. It instantly made my home more cheery, and my waistline thanked me for it too 🙂 So today I wanted to give you some ideas of easy ways to decorate with flowers around your home, and it doesn’t matter if they are real or faux.

Decorating with real flowers can be expensive, and not always something we have extra money in the budget for. So I fully believe to invest in some good faux flowers to fill in the gaps when real flowers just aren’t feasible, or in season. They don’t have to be expensive, but finding faux flowers that look real is key. If they are too “fake” looking, or too “shiny”, it’s just going to feel like you bought fake flowers, but I search for ones that look the most real to me, and sometimes I will save for it, or using coupons help, but it’s worth it in the end, and can make all the difference. Below I used faux little green shrubs from Ikea, to add some green to my 3-tiered tray. dining_room_hutch

I love having a few of these on hand, because they are the perfect size, and will go with almost anything. If you have a space that you feel is lacking a bit, pop one of these in there, and it’s sure to perk it up.

In my daughters room I use a faux bouquet of pink english roses on her drawing table. I use faux because I don’t have to worry about it spilling, and it lasts forever, so I never have to keep up with changing it. These I believe were a Micheal’s purchase.

I love decorating with flowers in our dining room. I don’t know what it is about adding flowers to our home, it just instantly makes me smile. farmhouse table centerpiece | Rooms FOR Rent Blog

Even if I can only afford one bunch of fresh tulips at the grocery store, I compensate with cute vases, and fill in the rest of the space with white candles.

One tip I tend to stick with most, is when buying flowers I stay in the same color palette. It depends on the mood I’m in, but 9 times out of 10, I will buy either all of the same flower, so they are sure to pop nicely in a room.Decorating with Flowers | Rooms FOR Rent Blog

Or different types of flowers all in the same color. Decorating with Flowers | Rooms FOR Rent Blog

Faux flowers are also great to fill in spaces in a room that you don’t want to have to change up all the time, or tend too. On a side table in our living room, I recently picked up some faux greens from Hobby Lobby, placed them in a vintage silver bucket, and called it a day. Fuss free, and even in person no one can tell the difference. But I think you’ll agree the pop of green adds so much to the space. Decorating with Flowers | Rooms FOR Rent Blog

So whether you are decorating with real flowers or faux, you can see how much they add to a space, and I hope you are inspired to go get some for your house now too! Check out these ideas from some of my friends!

I do the very same thing … that is, buying all the same flower in different shades (such as light, dark & medium pink peonies) OR a variety of flowers but all in the same color (white roses, white peonies, etc.). When it comes to faux, I do spend more but I’m happier as they look more real plus they last forever. The odd time (even with a pricy bloom) if I find the stem too bright a green, I will paint it various shades of brown. I do the same with leaves as well. I also sometimes snip a few petals off the faux and place them on the table, dresser, etc. where they are sitting. It then looks as though some of the blooms have dropped their petals! I fool a lot of people! 🙂

These are some great tips. I am especially glad for your tip of staying with one color and type of flower at a time. I like a lot of color, but having a big bouquet of many colored flowers doesn’t always work. Themes are good for helping me choose, and remembering that every vase doesn’t need to be stuffed full of flowers.
