Can we chat for a minute. Just friend to friend?! Life is hard. There I said it. I know in the world of social media, we are filled to the brim with everyone else’s highlight reel, it can make our own lives feel – well uneventful. Like if we aren’t trying the hippest restaurant in town, or the latest beauty regiment, or have picture perfect children at every moment, who never have outbursts, and always look put together, and don’t shout out in the grocery store “SOMEONE FARTED”. We can loose ourselves sometimes getting caught up in all we aren’t doing, and forget to rest in the fact that we are imperfect people, living in a messed up crazy world, and not every moment looks like it came straight out of a Hallmark movie. Phew! I’m glad I got that off my chest.
Perhaps you are feeling this way too. Or perhaps life is somewhat ok right now, because you are in between heightened stress moments. And thats ok too. I have plenty of times where I am in between stressful situations, and life feels pretty darn good! But the truth of it is, it’s not always going to be that way. Like when I had just had baby no.2 and baby no. 1 was only 18mths old, and all my friends were having weekly date nights with their “hot spouses” and I was feeling not-so-hot, that was a season. Or when we had no children, and everyone else and their brother (yes their brother) was getting pregnant, while we struggled with infertility and miscarriage- YEP, that was a season too. Or when you have said baby around the same time your childhood friend does, except she bounces back, and 7 days later is back in her skinny jeans! Yikes – what a season. Or when you feel incredibly blessed because there are blue skies and sun shining and all seems right in the world and for once you aren’t late on your bills, only to have your friend confide in you that they can’t make ends meat, and all your blessings make you feel guilty? Yep, another season. I think learning to embrace the season we are in, makes life much more tolerable. I know the holidays are coming, FAST approaching, and for most its a time of merriment and holiday cheer, while for some it’s a reminder of family members no longer with us, our depleting checking account where we barely have money for groceries, or spending holidays alone. Life is not always a fairytale ending like we were spoon fed as children, but I’m ok with that. If we didn’t have trials, then celebrating the good things would feel a bit uneventful. And I don’t about you, but when it’s time to celebrate, I want to CELEBRATE. There is a beautiful new book that is out by some of the sweetest women I had the pleasure of getting to meet in person for the first time this past summer. Vanessa Hunt and Heather Patterson, authors of At the Picket Fence Blog, sisters, put together a beautifully written book about celebrating the moments that fill your heart and home called “Life in Season.” Here’s what Vanessa and Heather have to say about it :
You are cordially invited to savor each day, week and season of life. If you’re anything like us, your life is a little imperfect. Rumpled, wrinkled, messy even. But somewhere between unfolded laundry and faucets needing cleaning, between occasional headaches and joy-threatening heartaches, there are moments of creativity and beauty that are perfect for celebrating. We believe our very creative God was deliberate in the ways that He gifted creativity to us. Whether you know it or not, you are creative and your creativity reflects God and His work in your life. Join us as we take a journey through the seasons of the year with faith-filled stories, encouraging devotions, beautiful photographs, DIY projects and recipes. Everything you need to slow down, embrace the beauty and the struggle, and celebrate the moments that fill your heart and home.
I have enjoyed reading and going through their book so much already, and think it would make a perfect gift for a sister, friend, or mom in your life! In the book you will find stories of encouragement, inspiration, and a few fun crafts and decor ideas as well!
I for one would be thrilled to have this special present waiting for me under the tree. It’s the perfect read, especially while we will have lots of time to reflect in this upcoming season of winter.
You can purchase the book HERE, [affliate link included] or if you want to read more check out what Heather and Vanessa have to say HERE. I hope you have a wonderful day friends, and remember whatever season of life you are in. You are not alone!

Thank you for this post. It really hit home, as I have
been through many of the same seasons you have been
through. I have learned that we learn more in our valleys
than on our mountain tops. Thank you for sharing your
beautiful home and your beautiful soul with your faithful
readers.
