Six years ago today my husband and I did our 4th serious grown-up accomplishment. We sat down and signed away what felt like our life, and some of the scariest documents we had ever seen, but what turned out to be one of the most exciting things we did together. Although it was extremely intimidating and there were moments that felt like this was never going to happen, on March 28th, 2011, only 10 weeks after the birth of our second child, we bought our first house. I can still remember sitting there with butterflies in my stomach of severe excitement and also anxiety of what would happen to us if this all went south. There’s no guarantees in life, and so when you commit to a bank for the next 30 years of finances, you pretty much feel like you are signing your life over. Little did I know that owning our first home would inspire me to document all my transformations that resulted in starting this blog.
So even though its technically an anniversary of the date, I’m celebrating the milestone of us buying our first home together and investing in our future as a family. Today I’m sharing a quick overview of our progress, and over the next couple of days I will share photos of how the rooms in our house have evolved. First up the living room-

And many more changes we’ve made along the way! Because Rome wasn’t built in a day, I hope these will be encouraging for you wherever you are in your journey with your homes decor. Stay tuned tomorrow our dining room is up first, as we take a look at how it has progressed over the past 6 years into the room you see now.

What a difference! I never saw the before pictures & as I was looking at your before kitchen, I noticed we have the same ugly over the sink lighting. My husband thinks these should last years….ugh! New light fixture on the way!! But you have really softened the look of your home with your touch. Can’t wait to see tomorrow’s post!

As always it’s a pleasure to see what you’very accomplished ! We too bought our first house just a couple of years after our second child and even though our mortgage was based on a $23,000 price tag, it was still super scarey. We stayed in our little house for just a year and a half, then went west and then came back and settled in NH. We have been in our home, wait for it, 40 years and still tweaking things. I love our little home and now that I am retired, I get to spend as much quality time here as possible. People keep asking, “Are you going to travel ?” Why would I? I’very spent 40 years making this place the perfect place to be, and I couldn’t be Happier! So, enjoy your home and be content and happy.
