The chalkboard door is gone! Yep. Now wait, before you start thinking to yourself “oh now, is that the one in her kitchen?”. No, it is not the one in our kitchen. Shortly after I started blogging, I was DIY’ing everything. Anything and everything I could get my hands on, and you better believe I was making and creating up a storm. Some of it good, and some of it not so hot. I was thrilled just to have a home that I could create in, and this new found liberation blogging gave me of being able to try new things and decorate and even though I didn’t have a degree, and actually have people like that things I was doing, kept me on a creative high for a long time. Almost to the point of burnout, but that’s a completely different topic for another post. I was so excited to put my signature on our home, I was crafting and creating everything I could get my hands on so our new house felt like “our home”. One of the things I decided to do was paint the top part of this door we had in our dining room with chalkboard paint, to act as a built in chalkboard. I shared the project HERE, and man those early days of blogging crack me up, but I keep those old posts active, because everybody starts somewhere.
At the time I had about 5 chalkboards in our house from the door, to the wall in our kitchen, and other ones I had DIY’ed. It served it’s purpose, and I was so happy with the outcome, and then at some point last year it started to look at me. You know “the look”. The look that says I’ve seen better days, and maybe it’s time to change me? Sometimes my furniture does that ya know? Every thing will be fine, until one day it sticks out like a sore thumb, and starts starring me done, saying I don’t belong here anymore. Well yesterday I chose to acknowledge the ugly stare I had been getting from my chalkboard door and do something about it. I looked back, but this time with a can of paint in my hands. Sometimes the simplest changes can make a big impact in a room, and in our dining room, painting the door was just that. So before I show you what it looks like now, I’m sharing some pictures of what our chalkboard door has looked like over the years. A sort of fair-well tour if you will.
And if you’ve ever wondered just what is behind that door in our dining room, it’s my office / laundry room.
I shared my office last summer just after we did a mini-laundry room makeover, because our “laundry room” is really just one wall, in my tiny office. You can see the whole space HERE. And Monday I’ll be back with some more pictures of spring around our home, including my freshly painted door!
And, if you’d like to see how our Dining room has transformed into the space you see today, you can read all about it HERE.
Stay in touch!

I loved this post and seeing the way the dining room has altered ever so slightly over time.
