Hi Friends! I hope you enjoyed seeing some signs of spring around our home. If you caught my post last week, than you may have noticed something different about our living room. I shared a sneak peak of the new slip covers for our sofa from Comfort Works. I am so excited to share all the details with you! I get asked a lot about our sofa, and slip covers in general, and since our sofa came with the slip covers already on them, I was never able to provide a source as to where to get your own. Many of you have asked where you can even find slip covers, or how to go about getting slip covers for the sofas and chairs you already have. Sometimes it’s not necessarily the furniture that we have that we want to replace, but just refreshen the look of them. Just like a new paint color or new curtains can drastically effect the feel of a room, imagine being able to change out the color of your couch without having to buy a new one? Sounds too good to be true right! I stumbled upon Comfort Works while scrolling through Instagram. My curiosity was totally peeked! After looking through their feed some more, I found out that not only do they provide new slip covers for Ikea pieces, but custom slip covers as well! Their work was beautiful, I was so impressed by their photos and the detail in their work, I had to find out more. I started talking with a rep who helped answer all my questions, like “Can you make a slipcover for furniture that isn’t IKEA?”, because most of Ikeas furniture is slip-covered, I’ve seen a few other companies out there who make slipcovers but only for IKEA furniture. The rep assured me they can make custom slip covers for just about any piece of furniture.
Still puzzled at how they can do this without me having to bring my sofa in, because anyone who reupholsters furniture, you have to drag it there, go without for about 3 weeks, and sometimes it would have been less just to buy a brand new one! “Nope, we do not need your piece of furniture here, our tailors can create a custom slip cover based off of the measurements you give us in the worksheet (provided).” Can you say miracle workers?! I couldn’t even believe it, and I’d been dying to switch up the look in our living room. I’m not over my white slip-covered sofa by any means, but when you work in the home decor field, and see so many beautiful designs, and can be some-what of a “redecorating-aholic” (yeah – I made that word up, but I think it’s true!), then having slip covers in a different color, without having to buy a new sofa are a win-win! Plus I had to see how this worked, because honestly, having a first hand experience, makes me so much more confident when recommending to a friend, or valued reader, who is desperately wanting to update the look of their drab sofa.
Just as a refresher, our sofa was white before. But one of the things I love most about slip covers is being able to remove them and wash them when needed. The added bonus is you can change the look of your couch without having to buy a whole new one. I pulled the coffee table out of the way, so you can see what an amazing job Comfort Works did at making our slip cover look completely custom tailored to our sofa.
I think one of the hardest things with store bought slipcovers is they are generic. Sort of a one-size fits all, and can sometimes look like you just covered your couch with a sheet. My family thought we got a new couch, but I reassured them – it’s the same couch, just new slipcovers.
There were so many details I got to customize. If I wanted piping or no piping – I chose not to go with piping. Where I would like pleats if I wanted any. They really are tailored made, and I was so surprised at how perfectly they fit.
Based off of the size and style of your piece of furniture they send you a work sheet which is very user friendly, and all you have to do is provide them with the measurements in the spaces provided, and off to their tailors it goes.
Our sofa is deep, and the arms have a slight curve at the top. I had no idea how they were going to figure that out without measuring it themselves – GULP! Turns out there is a quite a bit of math involved in making slipcovers – who knew?!
But as you can see they figured it out just fine, and the result is amazing. You would have thought I was hiding a seamstress in my basement who would come up and work on it at night while we were all sleeping, because this slipcover fits so perfectly.
The slip cover came neatly folded in a package with easy instructions for putting it on.
I’ve even already washed it too, and the fabric responded better than even our old IKEA couch slipcovers we had years ago.
I chose their Gaia Fog fabric, because it was a nice medium toned gray, but still offered the flexibility I get with decorating with neutrals. They highly recommend getting fabric samples first, and after receiving fabric samples and having to decide – I do too! Sometimes in decorating, I can get impatient and just want to get things done right away (sound familiar?). However, after receiving the fabric samples I selected, I was so glad I did not make a hasty decision. It was so nice to be able to hold the fabric swatches up to my curtains, and our chairs in our living room and be able to decide which one worked the best. Even though I stick to neutral colors, different textures of fabric can give those colors different undertones. Not all grays are created equal – lol.
The result, is a very refreshed look, provided by a beautiful new slipcover, and a little bit more flexibility in the day-to-day maintenance. Which in this busy time in our lives, it is very much appreciated.
