I can remember a time when I didn’t know what Farmhouse style was. Heck, I don’t even think Farmhouse was an option of a style you could even choose from. Nowadays it seems to be everywhere. Before, if you wanted farmhouse style you could had to DIY your own decor to get the look, because most of its’ signature pieces were only found on curbside yard sales and in certain parts of the country. European grain sack fabric, original tobacco baskets only found in the south, antique dough bowls, dusty galvanized buckets. Now you can head to just about any home decor store and find those items on the shelves.
But do you know that is not what I think of when I envision what Farmhouse style means to me? It’s funny, when I think about the style “Farmhouse” and what comes to mind, sure there are certain elements, and textures that come to mind, but for me it’s always been more about the feelings I get.
To me, Farmhouse style is inviting. It feels relaxed, like a warm summer afternoon, and evokes a casual, pieced together over time look. Sure it’s easier to get some farmhouse style decor staples now that the stores have caught on, but I think the true gems are the ones you can’t buy in a store. It’s the feeling that comes from being in those spaces.
You can imagine my sweet surprise and extreme honor when my friend KariAnne from Thistlewood Farms invited me to be part of her new book, The DIY Style Finder. And It officially releases today! She and I, plus three more of our blogger friends will take you on a room-by-room tour of our own homes to show you five major design styles to help you determine which one suits you.
I will never forget the warm summer day she showed up at my house, and the excitement she brought with her. It was probably the most fun photoshoot experience I’ve had to date, full of laughter and celebrating everything home and what I love to do!

Interesting quiz with sooo many choices. I ended up with transitional which I’ve always called eclectic. I like one of a kind, repurposed, and vintage items that keep my home from looking like everyone else’s.
