Hello friends and happy Monday! We had the most beautiful weekend, full of sunshine and the most perfect 75 degree weather. It sure made it feel like summer was finally here, which totally has me ready for lazy days to soak in all that summer has to offer. So we are kicking things off with a summer home tour, part of the Seasonal Simplicity summer series, hosted by Krista from The Happy Housie.
If you are stopping by from The Happy Housie, then welcome! I’m so glad you are here! In case this is your first time here, I’m Bre, mama of 2, wife to my childhood sweetheart, and live near the coast in New England. We live in an old farmhouse built in 1846, and I can’t believe we have lived here for over 8 years now, but sure do love making this house our home!
I shared last month when I refreshed our living room for summer how I love to keep things simple and add pops of navy blue for summer. I began to do that last month, but hadn’t quite finished, and was craving some more of that navy blue, so I kept tweaking things in our living room until it felt just right.
I think that’s one of the things I love to do most around our home. You don’t have to completely redo a room to make it feel different. I brought out some more throw pillow covers I still had tucked away from last summer, clipped some fresh lilacs, and brought up a few more summer accessories from the basement, and now it feels like summer has officially arrived.
I also love to switch out my artwork seasonally too. The frames stay the same, but I have a spring/summer print, and then a fall/winter print tucked inside each one, so it makes rotating them easy.
New this year, is this blue fern framed artwork I picked up from HomeGoods back in March, and below it is a new piece from Vol.25.
Vol. 25 has released a new Coastal Collection, just in time for summer, and this Seaweed Study vol.1 has me anticipating many days at the beach in the near future!
I shared in my spring entryway post earlier this year, how I use my desk to “hide” our dog kennel. A neatly folded tablecloth is placed over it, and tucking it under this deck at the bottom of our staircase almost makes it feel as though it’s not there.
A hobnail milk glass vase holds some freshly clipped lilac branches, and I love that I can smell them as I’m walking down the stairs each morning!
I shared our summer mantle/vignette last week, and love how effortless the display of ferns feel in recycled glass jars, all found at HomeGoods 🙂
I keep things simple in our kitchen. Honestly my favorite thing about summer, is just being able to go outside in our backyard and clip whatever is currently blooming so I can keep a vase full of fresh flowers or branches on our island.
Looking back into our dining room from our kitchen, I love having fresh flowers throughout each room. When the windows are open, and the warm breeze blows through the house, their sweet fragrance fills our house, and sometimes it makes me wish that summer would last all year.
I also love that includes this view of the DIY chalkboard wall I did years ago. I shared the tutorial HERE, and it’s still a favorite staple in my kitchen! How I turned an awkward wall, into focal point, that I often get asked if it’s wallpaper 🙂
Up next is Shabbyfufu! I just love Janets coastal home decor style. It’s the perfect combination of the beachy / feminine, and all things lovely. Be sure to stop by and visit her summer tour HERE.

Absolutely stunning, as always, Bre! I love your pops of navy and the new artwork is beautiful. The ferns are such a pretty summery touch. All the neutral textures are so calming but fresh at the same time. So glad you could be part of this tour series! Happy summer, friend!

I love your farmhouse style but especially because you haven’t gone ALL WHITE but still incorporate natural woods as well…..which adds so much warmth and interest and texture to a room….and, if they are antiques, a sense of history! Very warm and welcoming. Love it all!

Ohh Thank you so much Toni, it is definitely something I try to keep in mind when I’m decorating 🙂
