Come and Check it Out!
The first gathering that I shared in my book is very near and dear to my heart. In fact, I shared in the opening intro to this gathering, that I can’t share my love for tablescapes, or gatherings for that matter, without first our family’s favorite time to gather – Saturday morning breakfast!
It stemmed from the first few years of our marriage, pre-kids. We lived in the city, where everything was just around the corner from us, and every Saturday we would go out to breakfast. It was our favorite way to start the weekend, a little celebration for another work week over, and time to reconnect, regardless of what other plans we might have over the weekend.
We loved that time together. We coveted those Saturday morning breakfasts. In fact, it was the first thing we couldn’t wait to do after we brought our son home from the hospital. We had a few places that we frequently went to, and when the time came to move out of our apartment in the city, to our farmhouse in the country so we would have more space for our growing family, it was one of the things we missed the most.
Thus, a new tradition began in our home.
To make the weekend feel more special, I began making a farmhouse breakfast at home. Because taking two kids under 2 out to breakfast every saturday seemed more like an event at the Olympics, while they contently watched cartoons with dad, I began making breakfast in the kitchen.
In no time, our saturday morning breakfasts were a weekend tradition. Something we planned on, and made sure there was bacon for on Saturday mornings. It was a way we could embrace our new season as parents with our love for starting the weekend off slow, and with plenty of food too!
Fast forward to today, our kids look forward to this weekly ritual together. And I’ve gotten smarter with what I make too (I shared my favorite go-to recipe in the book – Ham & Asparagus Strata. Recipe can be found on pg. 39 in the book)! I do my prep the night before, so everything is ready to go into the oven when we get up in the morning. Our kids are also at the age now, where they are more than happy to make mom and dad their cup of coffee, it means freeing up my hands to get a batch of blueberry scones in the oven.
Easy Serving Tip ~ Take fresh fruit out of their plastic containers, and place in white serving bowls. It’s amazing how they instantly become irresistible snacks for hungry kids to munch on while they wait for the rest of the food to cook.

It doesn’t have to be elaborate. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but I find the time we spend around the table together on Saturday mornings, offers us a chance to reconnect, and be intentional in our conversation with each other, no matter how many family dinners we were able to squeeze in the week before.

Bre,
I cannot wait to read your latest book! I LOVE everything about GATHERING! Also, I love everything you create and share with us. You always remind me what a gift GATHERING truly is — especially during this time, when we all long to be with loved ones, yet cannot.
God has gifted you with many beautiful gifts that you use to His glory Bre. You always inspire me to strive in making our home a place where love is shared. This is, afterall, the true essence and purpose in us GATHERING. Very thankful for your blog indeed — God bless you Bre!
